Xander, too posh sounding? Or OK?

Hello
We had our son a week ago and made the mistake of not naming him when in hospital. We can't decide between Jack and Xander. Worried Jack is too popular and he could be one of several at school, but that Xander sounds too posh? Any thoughts? We have totally over thought this now! Thanks

Definitely not posh.
You'd be better with Alexander.

DariaMorgendorffer · 24/07/2020 14:42

Alexander with choice of nn is a brilliant choice op.

Cbeebiesrehab · 24/07/2020 13:36

Xander is lovely and Alexander is a good BC name and gives him options. Can’t get excited about Jack unfortunately.

MikeUniformMike · 24/07/2020 12:32

Xander might be more popular than Jack - you can't tell.
It's not posh at all, far from it.

angel0071987 · 24/07/2020 12:17

We have Alexander with the nickname Xander. :) love it and don't think it's posh it all

DatsunCogs · 24/07/2020 12:16

We have an Alexander called Xander. We are very happy with it but be aware that everyone will call him Alex despite being told otherwise! And he himself prefers the full Alexander. Still love it though :)

RightOnTheEdge · 24/07/2020 12:14

I only know one Xander and he's definitely not posh.
I like both your names though OP.

AuntieStella · 24/07/2020 12:04

Alexander nn Xander is a lovely name!

It's only posh if the person is (Xander Armstrong) or isn't (the one in Buffy). I think it would fit quite well in any circles

Alicetheowl · 24/07/2020 12:01

I thinkof Xander as slightly posh, but better that than the other direction! Alexander lets you call him Xander, which I think is lovely, but he can be Al or Alex if he wants.

Marcipex · 24/07/2020 12:00

Alexander is a great name. I think Xander has become the opposite of posh, but he can have Alex as a back up name.

Livpool · 24/07/2020 11:59

I love it - not posh either

Howeverfar · 24/07/2020 11:56

I think it's a lovely name! Congrats!

Hairthrowaway · 24/07/2020 11:55

I don't hear Xander as posh, more American (which I know it's not).

Same. It’s not posh to me. Alexander would be more posh.

IamMaz · 24/07/2020 11:54

Alexander is good.

ClaireB17 · 24/07/2020 11:28

Thanks so much for all the comments, feel much better. :) useful to have outside perspective. sorry should have said, yes he would be Alexander wkrh Xander as the nickname :). Mistake not to name him when still on hospital just because I'm so shattered now from days with newborn my decision making ability very low ;). And making me anxious not to have named him :).

Alexander is lovely, and gives you/him the choice of Xander or Alex.

Also, if you reframe the “too posh” question as “will be people think i’m getting above my lowly station in life?” You’ll realise that it isn’t something you want to worry about anyway Grin

SleepingStandingUp · 24/07/2020 10:57

Xander is really nice op

Commentutappelles · 24/07/2020 10:56

Where I live, Xander is most definitely not posh.

TheMotherofAllDilemmas · 24/07/2020 10:56

Xander posh? No... I would call him Alexander and use Xander as a nickname.

thethoughtfox · 24/07/2020 10:56

Another voice for it's not posh; it sounds American. Alexander sounds more refined and you can use Xander as a nickname.

Thisismytimetoshine · 24/07/2020 10:54

Why was not naming him in hospital a "mistake"?

CallMeOnMyCell · 24/07/2020 10:53

Makes me think of Xander from Buffy.

WantToBeMum · 24/07/2020 10:52

I don't see Xander as too posh, I see it as unusual, a bit mystical sounding. I love it! I love the idea of having an X as an initial too.

OldEvilOwl · 24/07/2020 10:51

I like both, but as a nickname for Alexander is better

MamaGothel · 24/07/2020 10:49

I don't think of Xander as being posh at all, more of a trendy name
