Magnus?

Hi all,
We’re due number 3 in October (our second boy) and I’ve had the same smallish list of boys names each time I’ve been pregnant however, Magnus has popped up on my radar again and I’ve never really considered it a serious contender until now. I think it flows nicely with my other children’s names too which is a bonus!
Any thoughts on this name?

If we were to go for it, I can imagine we would shorten it to Gus (which I love).
Other options are Bruno, Otto or Rudy.

Great taste Janeway! Grin

Roseburn · 27/07/2020 12:33

One elderly family member did get a bit confused and would call him Mangus ( she couldnt get her head round his name wasn't Angus) It was sweet and funny.

Our Mag is now a strapping six foot blond viking and following his boyhood passion of boats with a career at sea.

Magnus is a name that works for all sizes. :)

MorningManiacMusic · 27/07/2020 11:22

I like it. I hadn't much thought about it before this thread but it's cool.
Bruno is really old fashioned in Italy btw.

JanewaysBun · 27/07/2020 11:19

@MagnusMama are you me? That's literally my exact boy name list!
If I have a ds2 he will be Magnus or Cosmo

ButterflyOfFreedom · 26/07/2020 23:49

Not keen on Magnus.

Angus?
Fraser?
Spencer?
Roscoe?
Owen?

MagnusMama · 25/07/2020 21:00

@Aber9 My Magnus is actually v small and slight... but he is great Wink
His personality is big!

SuitedandBooted · 25/07/2020 20:42

It's a really good, strong name.

I have a nephew (aged 13) called Magnus. SIL is Danish.

Roseburn · 24/07/2020 20:59

FizzyGreenWater Are you in Orkney? :)

FizzyGreenWater · 24/07/2020 20:35

Yes great.

As already said, the nickname is Mansie.

quodvox · 24/07/2020 19:44

Fab name

Aber9 · 24/07/2020 19:43

Love it. My only hesitance would be what if he’s tiny...

DramaAlpaca · 24/07/2020 19:06

Love it.

coronafiona · 24/07/2020 19:03

Not Otto, that's too much like otter!

RuthW · 24/07/2020 19:01

Love it

123Dancewithme · 24/07/2020 16:01

I love it!

BarbaraBeast · 24/07/2020 15:42

Yep, Milo chocolate milk is still knocking about-I pick up a tin for my Milo whenever I come across one Smile. He doesn’t drink it but loves to keep the tins!

MikeUniformMike · 24/07/2020 15:33

@jessstan2, it still is a drink.

HorridHamble · 24/07/2020 15:25

Magnus is a great choice! I only know of one, who is about 7 years old. I really, really like Magnus. And Milo and Magnus sounds perfectly fine.

jessstan2 · 24/07/2020 15:20

Milo used to be the name of an energy drink.

Shayisgreat · 24/07/2020 12:42

A character on Dark is called Magnus. Never considered it as a potential name but I quite like it now. I think it goes alright with Milo.

MillicentMartha · 24/07/2020 12:39

Angus would be a more natural name to give Gus as a nickname. Magnus will forever be associated with Mastermind for me, but that’s not a bad association.

MikeUniformMike · 24/07/2020 12:34

I love is, but don't really see where you get Gus.
Angus might be better to avoid the M theme, or Gustav.

Orphlids · 24/07/2020 10:46

I think it’s fine with Milo. Not too twee, and neither name is cutesy. My daughter’s name also begins with an M, and it certainly doesn’t bother me.

IckleBear · 24/07/2020 10:35

Love Magnus and with Milo it's fine,
not twee at all.

How about Elias? Otis? Toren? Indy?

SillyFilly · 24/07/2020 10:16

Love it! Best name on your list by far
