Is Florence too old fashioned??

I was wondering whether Florence was too old sounding for my DD. Whenever I think of a Florence I think of a nice old lady! Am I overthinking??

Florence is an extremely extremely popular name.

ZebraKid71 · 24/07/2020 11:45

So many under 5s called Florence in my area. I'd be more worried about the popularity that it being old ladyish tbh.

It's a lovely name though.

Commentutappelles · 23/07/2020 23:19

Not a name I like, but definitely very popular.

caribooshriek · 23/07/2020 23:15

I love Florence!

worstwitch18 · 23/07/2020 23:14

Most Florences I know are under 25. Usually nicknames Floss.

MissHoney85 · 23/07/2020 22:44

Should add I'm in SW London, I know name popularity varies a lot regionally.

MissHoney85 · 23/07/2020 22:44

I'm an Infant teacher and have known more Florences than I can count over the last few years. Some known as Flo. All lovely girls!

Louise0701 · 23/07/2020 13:01

There are 6 Florence’s in DDs school and 2 in DS nursery class, it’s a lovely name

sel2223 · 23/07/2020 13:00

I think Florence is lovely

EugenesAxe · 22/07/2020 23:13

No it’s fine

123Dancewithme · 22/07/2020 23:11

It’s really popular, not old fashioned.

TheGoldenApplesOfTheSun · 22/07/2020 18:53

Lovely. Don't forget Florence + the Machine for a younger cooler Florence reference!

Breastfeedingworries · 22/07/2020 12:35

I’ve got a Florence, she’s florentine to me or flossy she’s 20 months

Whatsyourflava · 22/07/2020 12:33

Adore this name and perfect for a little girl. Love the family history connection too @ElisaMay think you'd really regret not using it

micc · 22/07/2020 12:21

My daughter goes to nursery with a Florance, such a pretty name.
There is also a Beatrice, Ivy and my daughter is Clementine!!
All the old names are coming back and they are so lovely on little girls, it also holds well throughout life too.
Cute nick name of Flo too :)

Tlollj · 22/07/2020 12:20

I love it one of my favourites.

RuthW · 22/07/2020 12:19

Florence is not old fashioned - it is very very popular now. Unlike 24 years ago when I chose it because it wasn't in the top 100.

IndiaMay · 22/07/2020 12:12

I know loads of baby Florence's. They're 10 a penny here. Tbh the popularity would put me off

superram · 22/07/2020 12:08

I’ve only taught lovely Florence’s.

SqidgeBum · 22/07/2020 11:57

Its old, but its beautiful. I love it. I know a 13 year old Florence, amazing kid, and her friends call her Florrie

AcrobaticCardigan · 22/07/2020 11:56

Love Florence!! Beautiful name.

userabcname · 22/07/2020 11:53

I know two babies called Florence I think it's fine.

ElisaMay · 22/07/2020 11:53

She would be named after my Great Grandmother as my sister got the other Great Grandmother's name and I thought it quite sweet!

I know several little Florences so it doesn't seem old lady to me at all. They get Flo, but also Flora and Flos, I believe.

Enb76 · 22/07/2020 11:50

I know a few Florence's but they are all in their late 20's, early 30's. Nicknames are Flossy, Flopsy, Lozza - none of them are called Flo
