If you MUST then at least have the decency to use it as a middle name. Then they can pretend they don't have one if it all gets too embarrassing. Imagine applying for university or a professional job with the name Blue 🙈

@RedRumTheHorse most of the big firms anonymise CVs these days. All references to name, sex, school etc have to be removed before they select who to interview so that they are not swayed by these things. Studies have found that firms interview and employ more women and more ethnic minorities this way.
Currently searching for work and 3 out of 4 of my applications were anonymised last week. In 20 years time I imagine it'll be standard practise across the board

Blue isn't my favourite name but it won't affect job prospects in my opinion

It is not a boy's name. It's a colour. In my school they taught us this.

I actually Know of an adult male called blue, in-law relative of my cousin. It's his real name given at birth. Utter down and out. Lots of Domestic violence and sleeps in car. Generally very angry. At no point do I ever think this is because of his name but the name would make me think of him (*shudders at thought)

What I would say about the name though, is that we discussed the name with my cousin a while back as it's quite unusual and a bit of a talking point. She says people

I know one in his 20s, if you love it then go for it. People get used to it pretty quickly and it’s never held the one I know back

For gods sake imagine your child grown up with a professional job having that name

You're naming a person, not a pet.

Your child needs to get a job in future and if they are in some professions their CV will go in the bin. So they won't be able to become Chairperson of Tescos, IBM or Natwest because their CV didn't even make it past the first stage.

My personal taste in names is pretty classic. But I don't think Blue is awful. I wouldn't bat an eyelid if I met one (admittedly living in London means we see a more interesting range of names). I really love Gray as a name so Blue or Red don't seem completely outlandish. I can't think of other colour names I like though.
