Help please - which is better? I love old names
Archibald would be shortened to Archie for everyday but Archibald for later in life to give him more options..

Like Archie, love Seth.

PocketBears · 22/07/2020 18:43

Blegh. They both sound like isolated old pervs who spy on women with binoculars.

back2good · 22/07/2020 16:11

I'm one of many on here who doesn't appear to like Archibald as a name for various reasons.

And Seth isn't what I would consider an 'old' name since it peaked in usage around 2000. Lot of guys in their 20s called Seth. There was a thread on the name back in 2008: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/baby_names/548333-seth

Whatsyourflava · 22/07/2020 15:30

Love the name Seth
Like Archie too though

Poppydaisie · 22/07/2020 14:50

Archibald is ok, but Archie is so cutesy.

Shelby762 · 22/07/2020 13:53

@Flowers245

Yes so much negativity towards Archibald although being a family name it is incredibly special to me

@back2good

Sorry may I ask what your children are called if those names are that horrendous in your opinion??

Poppydaisie · 22/07/2020 13:33

Seth is difficult to pronounce with a lisp.

Butterbeeeen · 22/07/2020 13:20

I have a Seth. Go with Seth. Great name

back2good · 22/07/2020 13:18

Are those really the only names you like for a boy?

Sojo88 · 22/07/2020 13:11

Seth

Flowers245 · 22/07/2020 13:09

I love the name Archibald but like Arch or Archer for nicknames, the other name we like is Angus. There seems to be a lot of negativity towards Archibald but I would just go with what you like :)

LilacSloth · 19/07/2020 16:09

Seth ❤

MikeUniformMike · 19/07/2020 14:48

Archer is awful although fine as a surname, I don't like Arch at all and Archibald isn't very nice.

CakeRattleandRoll · 19/07/2020 14:45

I'd go with Archer rather than Archibald. Still gives nn Archie and provides less cutesy option for later.

LarkDescending · 19/07/2020 11:31

Seth. I know a lovely young one, and nobody seems to struggle to pronounce his name.

Grufallosfriends · 19/07/2020 11:10

I don't like Archibald, Arch or Archie much. But I would use Archibald to give him options. Archie is very cutesy.

Seth is tricky to pronounce imo

Maduixa · 19/07/2020 11:07

Archibald is a family name for me too. I would use it as the formal/legal name even if I were planning to use Archie or Arch on an everyday basis. It's just a regular Scottish name to me - although the Archibalds in my Scottish family trace back to Ireland. Use it if you love it!

MrsBungle · 19/07/2020 11:05

Seth. Archibald is highly unlikely to ever be used as a full name —because it is not nice—

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 19/07/2020 11:03

Seth

howlat · 19/07/2020 07:15

Neither.
I thought this post was a windup!

If there's either of those in your family and you want to keep the tradition, then I'd opt for it as a middle (or second middle) name.

MikeUniformMike · 19/07/2020 06:33

Don't really like either of them.

Tillygetsit · 18/07/2020 23:06

Full name Seth Archibald Surname?

NoMoreFlowers · 18/07/2020 22:29

Seth is lovely

Enderman · 18/07/2020 22:26

I can’t imagine anyone would choose to go by Archibald rather than Archie.
