Down to 2 girls names

Somethingvague · 17/07/2020 07:06

Hi,

We have been struggling with girls names. I think we are currently down to a final two:

Jasmine

Wren

Although still don't feel 'set' on either of these. Which do you prefer? Or other suggestions?

I also like (but OH doesn't): Imogen, Matilda
He likes (but I don't): Harmony, Annabelle
Would probably rather avoid ie/y names as our son already has a name ending like this.

Jasmine is lovely.

It sounds odd to me to use Wren as a name for a person.

MayFayre · 18/07/2020 13:37

Jasmine, so long as you don’t mind it being shortened to Jaz.

What about Iris?

daisypond · 18/07/2020 13:32

Why would anyone want to shorten Jasmine? You could have Mina maybe.

Atalune · 18/07/2020 13:10

Do you like Jaz as a nn? I don’t like how jasmine can be shortened so for that reason I don’t like it.

Wren is pretty.

What about
Margot- Nn Maggie?

ChachiChichi · 18/07/2020 13:03

I love Wren! My little girl is Renata but we call her Ren for short.

Enderline · 18/07/2020 12:30

I find Wren quite ugly and think it will date horribly.

Jasmine is perfect. Clara and Flora are lovely too.

Clara Jasmine?
Jasmine Flora?

Happenchance · 18/07/2020 12:21

Hi OP, since you like Flora, what about Laura? Lucia is also really nice.

SidesteppinTheRona · 18/07/2020 10:10

Jasmine is beautiful - floral and exotic.

Wren is a little bit silly.

emilybrontescorsett · 18/07/2020 09:01

I've never heard of Wren but I really like it.
I'm not a fan of Jasmine I don't know why.
I like Annabelle but understand why you can't use it.
How about Wren Jasmine?

IggyAce · 18/07/2020 08:50

Another suggestion Francesca with possible nn of Frankie.

17caterpillars1mouse · 17/07/2020 19:01

Love Jasmine. Wren feels a bit faddy

daisypond · 17/07/2020 18:10

Jasmine.
Wren is just silly.

NameChange30 · 17/07/2020 17:40

Isabella is frilly but Isabel / Isobel are not... the different spellings can put it people off, though.

FWIW I like Clara and don't think it's plain. I like strong, simple, elegant names - they suit women as well as little girls.

Somethingvague · 17/07/2020 17:38

Haha, some interesting reactions to Wren! My gran was actually part of the wrens during the war, so I quite like that link. Jasmine seems to be doing better so far. Middle name would be a family name.

We had considered Isabella Wren previously, it was probably an early frontrunner, but have both gone off Isabella as a bit frilly and quite popular - plus OH dislikes the nickname Issy. I probably like it still more than he does. He is very against Imogen. We quite like Willow, but it makes us both think of the Warwick Davis film! I like Clara, but it's a bit plain. Picky I know, but open to any more suggestions. I also like Flora, but the butter link puts me off!

Jasmine

Alarae · 17/07/2020 16:02

I like Jasmine.

Do not like Wren at all as just doesn't sound like a name to me. I just imagine a wormy dragon from a fantasy novel.

FlaskMaster · 17/07/2020 15:54

Jasmine is lovely. Wren is just horrible sounding and is (or used to be) a female naval officer didn't it, so more like a title/rank, or obviously a bird, than a name. Unless you've already got a kid called Stumpy I'd steer well clear of that tbh.

CakeRattleandRoll · 17/07/2020 15:51

Love Jasmine.

Other suggestions:
Yasmin
Juniper
Sylvia/Sylvie
Miranda

123Dancewithme · 17/07/2020 14:42

Jasmine is lovely

GetTheSprinkles · 17/07/2020 14:29

Both so lovely.
I see Jasmine as a girly girl name and Wren as more modern and 'cool'.
Jasmine offered more options e.g. Jazz, Minnie

Lobsterquadrille2 · 17/07/2020 14:22

Imogen and Matilda are lovely. Less keen on Wren and Jasmine. Serena or Miranda?

iwontfloaatt · 17/07/2020 14:12

Jasmine is beautiful. I don't like Wren at all.

user1493494961 · 17/07/2020 13:48

Jasmine is OK, I've never understood the love for Wren, to me it's a nondescript name, to match the bird. Imogen and Matilda are lovely, Annabelle is nice, but Harmony's a bit of an odd choice.

MikeUniformMike · 17/07/2020 13:42

Jasmine. Wren is nice as a name for a cute little bird but not a girl.

Happenchance · 17/07/2020 13:37

I prefer Wren to Jasmine.

How about:
Rowan
Miren or Seren (Both can be shortened to Wren)
Winter
Rhona (I like this name despite the 'rona virus connection!)
Hester
Bethan
Elise
Clara
Robyn?
