Glamorous names

Looking for more suggestions for names I can only describe as quite glamours, simply because of associations though: think Mae West, Vivien Leigh, Audrey Hepburn, Deanna Durbin, Greta Garbo... I just love love LOVE!

Can't find the one that my husband loves too though, so hoping you can help. We love something quite strong sounding, not too feminine sounding and smart.

Got to be Cressida Cartwight. Cressie for short.
You can thank me later!!

BurtonHouse · 19/07/2020 20:37

Oh, and Cressida.
And Ophelia.
Can't imagine either of them being anything other than immaculately polished.

MikeUniformMike · 19/07/2020 16:39

Kitty Cartwright sounds good

MikeUniformMike · 19/07/2020 16:36

The film star names are usually assumed names. Another source of inspiration might be fictional names.

Some might veer into pornstar/stripper territory though.

ShootForTheStarz · 19/07/2020 13:00

Claudia Cartwright is so lush! 😍

Portia was on my list once.

ShootForTheStarz · 19/07/2020 11:45

So many amazing names there! Loved the suggestion of Portia.

Zizi means Willy in French, I wouldn’t recommend it!

MikeUniformMike · 19/07/2020 08:50

Alliteration can sound quite glamorous.

What's the surname?

Destroyedpeople · 19/07/2020 08:49

Oh I was Re -reading yesterday's Guardian...great obit. Then saw your post!

MikeUniformMike · 19/07/2020 08:45

Not The Guardian, the DT.
You dance like Zizi Jeanmaire

Destroyedpeople · 19/07/2020 08:42

You read that obituary in the Guardiam as well then @MikeUniformMike...Grin

MikeUniformMike · 19/07/2020 06:23

I always think that names ending in "a" sound quite glamorous and classy!

Claudia
Antonia
Arabella

WellTidy · 18/07/2020 16:50

Arabella

Two of my relatives were given “film siren” names. Lovely ladies both, but neither of them are in the least bit glamorous (more down to earth types) and one of them positively adjusts the spelling of her name to remove the link.

Give a name with flexibility for a child’s character.

Jocundest · 18/07/2020 15:07

Ninette (de Valois)

Her real name was the somewhat less glamorous Edris Stannus, though! Actually, it's instructive to look at the birth names of lots of film stars -- Frances Gumm (Judy Garland), Norma Jean Baker (Marilyn Monroe), Tula Elise Finklea (Cyd Charisse), Doris Kappelhoff (Doris Day), Virginia Katherine McMath (Ginger Rogers).

Oh yes just saw Beverly mentioned...I love that name

Beverly for me is a hard-bitten late-middle-aged woman who likes her gin, chainsmokes and dyes her hair aubergine.

formerbabe · 18/07/2020 09:45

Claudia

Hedy Lemarr is beyond glamourous, but i don’t think Hedwig is going on anyone’s top 5.

My mum was at school in the 50s with a girl called Desiree Dubois which i always thought was glamour personified.

Sk1nnyB1tch · 17/07/2020 23:45

Amelia (Earhart)
Constance (Markievicz)
Jacqueline (Kennedy/Onassis)
Jayne (Mansfield)
Katherine (Hepburn)
Ninette (de Valois)
