Bugger - I don't like any boys' names

AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings · 13/07/2020 21:10

I realise this sounds ridiculous, but I've realised that I don't actually like very many boys' names - and the ones I do like are either a bit too out there or DH has vetoed.

Can you please help me think of names along the lines of the following...

Zachary
Xander
Xavier
Orion
Leonard
Leonardo
Leo
Ray
Jesse
Galileo (dh actually laughed out loud at this one)
Rafe
Constantine
Artemis
Apollo
Archer
Sirius
Silas
Tobias
William
Arthur
Oscar
Sebastian
Rory
Dexter
Leander

I basically like names of Mythological Greek murderers, x-men, Victorian fops, or ninja turtles.

Gilbert? Fitzwilliam?

DoTheNextRightThing · 14/07/2020 07:58

So I need a name that's more exciting than George but less exciting than Zack. And is basically Arthur, as that's the one name he likes.

Artie? Archie? Anders? Andre? Archer? Atticus?

LostInTheColonies · 14/07/2020 07:50

Peregrine? Nn Perry would be good!
Kester
Jago
Iolo

Sunbird24 · 14/07/2020 07:47

I worked with an Orion a few years ago, he was a really nice guy...

Louise0701 · 14/07/2020 07:39

What about Archer if you both like Arthur?
Or Zephan? Shortened to Zeph?

MillyMolly123 · 14/07/2020 07:34

@MillyMolly123

Each to their own, I guess Wink

It’s a perfectly good, not too popular, but not too out-there, solid name to me. We all like different things I guess. Maybe I would consider some of the names you would choose as pretty bad also.

Out of interest, what names do you like?

Post above is for @Anordinarymum

“Quote” function didn’t work first time round!
@millymolly23 I've actually suggested zebedee! Zeb for short. But was shot down so fast that I didn't dare include it on this list 😂

He said that it sounds like a speech impediment.
Brilliant Grin

daisypond · 14/07/2020 07:28

Julius is great.
Julian
Lucien
Lucas
John is good.
Alban

bumpitybumpbump · 14/07/2020 07:17

Decimus?

There was an architect in the 1800s who built a lot of houses in Tunbridge Wells called Decimus - and then there's the gladiator connection you DH might like?

We called our Landrover Defender Decimus and I always loved it!

Grufallosfriends · 14/07/2020 06:44

Julius? Really ? The poor child

What on earth is wrong with Julius? I honestly can't see any issues with it.

It's not like William that makes get get teased with Willy, and it doesn't rhyme with anything obvious.

I know an adult Julius (as well as many Julias)

Grinchlywords · 14/07/2020 02:39

Robin
Guy
Julian
Christopher

PineconeOfDoom · 14/07/2020 02:35

I think I like your DH Grin

Otis
Seth
Milo
I quite like Cyril but appreciate that’s probably a minority opinion

ElaineMarieBenes · 14/07/2020 02:28

Rudi
Logan
John

Anordinarymum · 14/07/2020 02:18
@Anordinarymum Genuinely curious what you mean by that. None of the OP’s list seem that outlandish to me. None are particularly common these days, but certainly not on a par with Zebedee or Twinkie-Winkie anything!

I’m interested to understand your take on them. Many of them are very traditional old school names Confused
Lol! 😂

AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings · 14/07/2020 01:37

I asked my two-year-old earlier what we should call the baby and she said Pasta.

So I've got a Plan B.

ChavvySexPond · 14/07/2020 01:32

I'm calling my next cat Babatunde because I like saying it, if that helps.

Have we had Evander? Kirin? Fintan? Conall?

Amos? Demetrius? Immanuel? Malachi? Nicodemus? Reuben, Solomon, Mordecai, Obadiah?

Say you're going to call the baby Vulcan Ragnarok unless your partner comes up with something workable instead of rubbishing you're ideas

Mopani · 14/07/2020 01:26

What about Orin? Or Oran- not sure of the spelling but heard it the other day and liked it!

ICantBelieveThisNameWasntTaken · 14/07/2020 01:23

Hmm... perhaps Ryan might be a good middle ground there! Or perhaps you've already had that one vetoed as well Blush

Are you planning on having more children after this one? DP and I chose a celestial theme for DCs names (one of them is actually on your original list!). We have an understanding that if we go on to have more, future DCs will have celestial themed names too. Nothing corny though, you'd hardly notice the link if it wasn't explained.

All that rambling was to suggest talking to DH about a theme Smile perhaps look at constellations, if you like a boy's name from that realm then it would make a lovely theme should you go on to have more DC.

AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings · 14/07/2020 01:15

@ICantBelieveThisNameWasntTaken he genuinely thought that what I was doing anyway with some of my suggestions 😂

Thing is, he LOVES every girl name I suggested. He's even suggested that we still use one (good luck explaining to your 6'4 son why he's called Ruby instead of Seb in 20years time).

He actually wants/likes Orion but I'm uneasy about naming a child after a mythological rapist.

@ICantBelieveThisNameWasntTaken

Oh dear! You should definitely veto DH's name and ask him to change it Grin
By this I meant get DH to change his own name, not his choice of baby name! That would be silly 😝
ICantBelieveThisNameWasntTaken · 14/07/2020 01:09

Alternatively, think of a ridiculous name that you would never want DS called in a million years, like Garbagio, and emotionally tell DH that you must have that name, you simply must. He'll be horrified, then he will bargain with you and offer up one of your other name choices insteadGrin

AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings · 14/07/2020 00:58

@icantbelievethisnsmewasnttaken I tried Raphael but was told it was a Turtle name. Ralph has also been rejected.
