Alliteration

Hi everyone,

I'm having a baby girl in August. Our last name is Peer. My husband loves the name Poppy as do I. But not sure how I feel about the alliteration.

Just wanting opinions. Thanks x

It’s not the alliteration that’s the problem. It’s the Ps in the middle of Poppy, which make the whole name too P heavy. There is a P every other syllable.

sel2223 · 15/07/2020 00:31

I really don't like alliteration unfortunately, I find it kind of twee.
If you and your OH like it though, that's all that matters

Knobblybobbly · 14/07/2020 22:51

I love alliteration. I so dearly wanted to do it with my DD. Husband vetoed the idea.

We shall be doing it with a puppy.

missingmyholidays · 14/07/2020 22:49

I don't like it, sorry

Danniiaddy · 14/07/2020 22:16

It’s too pee pee sounding IMHO
Penny or Polly would sound better

Happenchance · 14/07/2020 20:31

I don't think those names go together and I also think that there’s a risk that kids will call her Poopy Pee-er.

MikeUniformMike · 13/07/2020 19:57

It's a bit like Peppa Pig

iwontfloaaatt · 13/07/2020 17:15

Gosh, no way. It's too P-heavy.

user1493494961 · 13/07/2020 16:50

They don't go well together.

Flymetothestars · 13/07/2020 16:43

Wow I love it! Poppy Peer is great and honestly no one will bat an eyelid I bet. There are so many Imaginative, weird and wonderful names these days for busy bodies to focus on. Poppy Peer will not raise eyebrows and 99.9% of the time it'll just be "Poppy" anyway . Great choice

sibbys · 13/07/2020 16:41

That's fine! Daffodil

JaJaDingDong · 13/07/2020 16:36

My cousin's initials are RRR. Two 3 syllable names, and a 1 syllable surname. It's nice.

amurderofone · 13/07/2020 16:34

I'm not keen on the name Poppy in general but it doesn't really go with your surname either.
If you really want a "P" name, Penelope goes with your surname as it's a longer first name which flows better imo

DoTheMaccaroni · 13/07/2020 16:21

I was excited to see the name you had in mind as I LOVE alliteration. However, I agree that this one doesn’t flow well. It’s the ‘peepee’ sound in the middle that doesn’t work for me.

Flappingflamingo · 13/07/2020 16:01

To be honest I don't think they sound great together but I have a dislike the name poppy so I might be swayed by that but it doesn't matter what we think, if you and you husband like it, go for it!

FelicityPike · 13/07/2020 15:38

Love it!

EssentialHummus · 13/07/2020 15:33

I'm not a fan generally or in this case. Can sound twee.

TenShortStories · 13/07/2020 15:30

I think they sound OK sometimes but Poppy Peer is slightly off - I think it's the pee sound at the end of Poppy getting followed by Peer. It reminds me of a tongue twister.

That said, it's not dreadful so if it's the only name you agree on then perhaps go for it. If there are any others then I'd go for them instead

Joans3rddaughter · 13/07/2020 15:30

You could add a middle name eg. Poppy Rae

Gin4thewin · 13/07/2020 15:28

Both of mine have 1st names and surnames that start with 'M'. Wasnt done intentionally, we just seem to like M names!

MikeUniformMike · 13/07/2020 15:27

Polly goes better.

Spied · 13/07/2020 15:25

I like it

Thistlegirl4 · 13/07/2020 15:23

I do like alliteration and it sounds cool with your surname

PaulinePetrovaPosey · 13/07/2020 15:23

I like alliteration but I'm not sure that one flows very well.

SilverOtter · 13/07/2020 15:15

I like alliteration. Maybe she'll be a superhero?!Grin
