I'm currently really liking the name Marnie but I can't decide if it sounds too much like a nickname or if it's ok as a stand-alone name. Would be grateful for other people's views! If we had a longer name on the birth certificate do you think Marina or Margaret (or something else) would work better?

The other possible name contender at the moment is Jemima...

The only Marnie I know would be in her early 50s now....
It's a cool timeless name.
Wonder if the Hitchcock film popularised it back then....

I like it, again as others have said it’s not my usual style but I think it’s fine as a standalone name (and I’m really not a fan of nicknames on BC - if you liked Maggie I’d vote for Margaret on the BC).

It's the name we gave to my DD, 18 months. Love it. She has an usual surname which it suited, that's why we chose it, might not work for everyone.

Not keen. It seems insubstantial and the way people pronounce it with non-rhotic accents makes me think of Armani.

that hitchcock film is so horrendous, re when he rips her gown open and she just has to stand there and put up with it, as he has ownership rights and can do what he likes, that's what he's asserting.
it's a no from me. those associations are unbearably bleak.

I will confess I don't like it as a name but it is a perfectly proper full name.
So if you like it then go for it.

I love this. It was in my list and narrowly missed out as dp preferred other names. It's beautiful.

I've always liked Marnie, even though it's not my usual style at all. I think it works as a standalone name as I don't find it cutesy.

My adult niece is a Marnie. I've checked with her and my DB, and none of knew it was short for anything! It suits here just fine as an adult, and she says she would rather choke than be called Margaret...

Absolutely love it. It was too of my list from my teens when I used to babysit a gorgeous little toddler Marnie. I ended up with boys so didn't get to use it but it's still my favourite name.

And toddler Marnie is now a a lovely 27 year old working in law and it doesn't seem at all cutesy or babyish on her.

I really like Marnie. I've only ever met one Marnie and that was 10 years ago, she was a fiesty 3 year old atm.

I think it works fine as a standalone name, though I do like Margaret, though people will probably try and shorten it to Maggie
