Can I please ask your thoughts on Lauren?

Just that really. My husband and I think it's super adorable but also works for a girl in her teens and as an adult.
I think it's a classic name but am worried others will say it's dated? Any (not too critical) opinions would be great Smile

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Lauren sounds very unfeminine to my ears. In French Laurent is a male name, maybe that's influenced me. It also reminds me of the brand Ralph Lauren.

I much prefer Laura or Laurenna. Much more feminine sounding!

MikeUniformMike · 09/07/2020 11:13

Don't like it. It sounds harsh and a bit downmarket.

SageRosemary · 09/07/2020 10:51

Lovely name

babynamelover · 09/07/2020 10:43

My Sister's middle name is Loren.
I've meet one little Lauren in my ten years of teaching in NZ.

Lindy2 · 09/07/2020 10:43

I have a Lauren. It was my favourite girls name for years and I was able to use it when my daughter was born.

It really suits her. I've never doubted our name choice. She's 12 and although there are other Lauren's around in her school there are definitely not too many. Not like the Ellies, Mias etc.

I think the "am I bothered" character might have made it less popular but that was quite a while ago now. My Lauren actually discovered that Lauren character a few weeks ago thanks to You Tube and finds it absolutely hilarious. Hmm

iffymiffy · 09/07/2020 10:42

I like it.

Whereas I’m in the minority here but I think Laura is awful...

FuckKnowsMate · 09/07/2020 10:37

I’m a Lauren and if I had a quid for every time someone mistakenly called me Laura I’d be very rich. I’ve no idea why people can’t seem to call me by my name but it’s annoying to say the least! I do like my name though!

ChibiTotoro · 09/07/2020 10:30

I like it. I've never met a Lauren in real life before. It makes me think of Lauren Bacall and Lauren Laverne.
I know at least 10 Lauras and was very nearly a Laura myself.

TheNewLook · 09/07/2020 10:30

When I was in my teens (90s) I imagined I’d call a future daughter Lauren. It seemed so pretty. I now have daughters and didn’t call them Lauren but I still like it. It’s quite a mature name, unlike Lily, Maisy, Ella etc.

daisypond · 09/07/2020 10:30

I agree. Laura is classic and Lauren isn’t, to me. Very different images.

Mish85 · 09/07/2020 10:28

I'm not in the UK, but have to agree with it being associated to people in their 20's/ 30's. I know of at least 8. But that shouldn't stop you, it's a nice name.

steppemum · 09/07/2020 10:26

It's funny that people suggest Laura as an alternative, to me Laura and Lauren have very, very different vibes. Both lovely, but If I liked Lauren, I wouldn't be using Laura! (and vice verse)

I like it, I don't think it was ever so popular that it will sound dated.

GoingBackTo505 · 09/07/2020 10:24

I'm 30 and I know about 6 Lauren's so to me it's of my age and I'd be surprised to hear of a baby one. I do think it's dated.

GameSetMatch · 09/07/2020 10:22

I like it! Classy and timeless.

user1493494961 · 09/07/2020 10:12

I wouldn't say it was classic, like pp. I think of it more as a 90s name. I don't dislike it, just think it's a bit bland.

daisypond · 09/07/2020 10:12

I do think it’s dated. I know a few in their 30s. I think Laura is more classic.

Ploughingthrough · 09/07/2020 10:09

I love the name Lauren, if I was having more babies it would totally be on my list.

imalittlethrowaway · 09/07/2020 10:09

I like Lauren, I think it’s pretty and not very common (as in frequency!) I’ve only ever met 2 in my life, both the same age as me, 30

Mrsjayy · 09/07/2020 10:05

There was just as many Laura's to Lauren's in the early 90s I think they are comparable names.

Onestepup · 09/07/2020 10:03

I like Lauren. Laura is a bit ponderous.

Spied · 09/07/2020 10:02

It says 90's to me.
It's not awful but I prefer the similar Laura.
Laura is a timeless classic.

Ugzbugz · 09/07/2020 09:57

Lovely name Smile

VinoOlive · 09/07/2020 09:52

There are two Lauren's at my DS' preschool, I was surprised as most I know are my age, 30s.

northernbelle84 · 09/07/2020 09:50

Lovely name. I do know lots of Laurens (10) in their 20s/30s so it is a little age specific round here (The North) but not unusable.

megrichardson · 09/07/2020 09:49

Wasn't she the 'am I bothered?' schoolgirl?
