So mumsnet is known for its honesty... so I wont be offended.
We have a Harris at the moment
For a boy my husband like Lomond... I do like it but worry people will think it too different?
We really want something scottish, we cant have arran or lewis as we have a nephews called these names.
If you dont like Lomond any other suggestions?
Thanks in advance

I'm Scottish and don't really like Lomond as a name, it's as strongly associated with place for me as naming your child Glasgow or Edinburgh. I think it's twee with Harris too. Great alternatives here though.

Lomond is great. Not unique so not too over the top but still very unusual. And what nice associations the name has!

HD98 · 16/07/2020 21:15

I'm Scottish and I've never heard Lomond as a name. I think I could get on board?

My husband and I are Scottish and both love Lomond. It's not common either.

I love Innes. Had a good friend with that name, lovely guy. I thought about naming my son Innes actually

Sdoo4 · 04/07/2020 19:56

Harris & Cameron
Harris & Lachlan

DH's family are Scottish. SIL called her son Aulay, which I think is a lovely and unusual Scottish name

Sdoo4 · 04/07/2020 17:28

I’m Scottish so don’t see Lomond as a name. Too much with Harris aswell to have both names from places.

As mentioned above I quite like Fergus, good strong name.
Gregor is nice too and not that popular.
How about Alba?

SnowdropFox · 04/07/2020 14:20

Love Struan, Nairn, Gregor and Lachie.

Personally I grew up very close to Loch Lomond and it just doesn't seem like a person's name to me. But people will the say the same thing to me about Nairn!

MikeUniformMike · 04/07/2020 12:24

Lewis

motherstongue · 03/07/2020 21:17

I'm not always very keen on place names as first names, but they are quite widely used in Scotland.

I've come across: Athol, Comrie, Erskine, Coll, Struan, Blair, Craig, Alpin, Ross... (some of these = geographical features, rather than places)

I'm not saying I like all these, but what about: Gregor, Keir, Innes, Bryce, Oran/Odhran, Crawford, Maxwell, Fergus, Somerled, Torquil,

There were 5 babies named Lomond registered in Scotland in 2018 www.britishbabynames.com/blog/top-1000-names-in-scotland-2018.html
