Wondering if I can get some help...I really want to use the name Clementine but really struggling with a middle name that flows nicely...

Current options are;

Clementine Grace
Clementine Olivia
Clementine Hope
Clementine Mable

Not really sure of any of them! 🤷🏻‍♀️ What do you think? Any better options?

I like Hope. You could also go for Zoe (life).

raindrop83 · 07/07/2020 08:40

I think I'm swaying towards Clementine Hope..is it cheesy though?! It feels fitting after having a lockdown pregnancy! 🤣Is it going to be overused this year though? 🙈

Clementine Isla

@ZoyaTheDestroyer Thanks, that makes so much sense! A short middle name it is!

If you want it to scan it needs to be a single syllable - in metric terms Clementine is a dactyl (dum-di-di) which is partly by it sounds quite frilly. By adding a single syllable middle name you can create a pleasing pair of a trochee and an iamb dum-di di-dum, which makes the phrase sound ‘finished’.

I would go all in with a virtue name! Hope, Joy, Faith.

I really wouldn't get hung up on a middle name. Pick another name you like, that means something to you and that isn't offensive or silly. How many times in your life have you been referred to by your full name? Not many I guess. It's important it doesn't sound silly etc but I wouldn't let it stress you out. Love clementine btw xxx

Middle names are not often used in conjunction with the first. Why not choose a name with meaning for you, perhaps after a beloved relative, favourite character from book or film etc?

daisypond · 05/07/2020 10:05

Rose is a nice name but it gets overlooked as a middle name. Clementine Rose sounds a bit like the name of Mississippi paddle boat steamer to me.

daisypond · 05/07/2020 10:02

If you feel like a more modern name is needed, it’s odd that you have suggested Mabel, Olivia, Hope, Grace Etc, as they are all old. What do you mean by modern?
Fern?
Haley?
Scarlett?

CakeandCoffeeQueen · 05/07/2020 10:00

I don’t have a middle name, which I always wish i had.
I’m Cake Coffee (fist name, mother’s maiden name) Queen (father surname)
When I was a teen a wanted it to be double barrelled, I changed it when I got married and love that I still have my mums family’s name

NameChange30 · 05/07/2020 09:44

For middle names it really doesn't matter
Unless you are calling her Olivia Rose Smith Grin

raindrop83 · 05/07/2020 09:42

@NameChange30 I could use Rose which I like but not sure if it's too common?

Clementine Cherry 🍒

NameChange30 · 05/07/2020 09:29

Any family names you could use? From your side of the family if baby is having DH's family surname?

raindrop83 · 05/07/2020 09:24

Lots of people seem keen on Joy or Mary...unfortunately I'm not a fan, I feel a more modern name is needed?

OP posts:
juneisbustingout · 05/07/2020 07:39

Joy
Mary

mathanxiety · 05/07/2020 07:33

I think a long middle names would be much nicer than a short one.
I really love the PP suggestion of Clementine Alexandra.

Clementine Annabel
Clementine Angharad
Clementine Isadora
Clementine Elspeth
Clementine Estelle
Clementine Adelaide
Clementine Aurelia
Clementine Primrose
Clementine Leonore
Clementine Eloise
Clementine Iris
Clementine Opal
Clementine Eirene
Clementine Eleanor
Clementine Constance
Clementine Christabel

raindrop83 · 04/07/2020 11:02

I feel like names like Joy, Sylvie, Mary etc would make sense if they were named after their Grandma etc but sound a bit random for no reason...or is that just me? 🤷🏻‍♀️

OP posts:
alli1968 · 04/07/2020 07:34

I love Clementine Anne or Clementine Joy

finallychangedmyusername · 04/07/2020 07:13

Clementine Hope is a nice touch for a baby born this year.

Agreed that Rose and Belle are too sickly sweet.

You could go for "southern belle charm", suggestions:

Clementine Sylvie
Clementine Beatrice
Clementine Anna
Clemtnine Mary
Clementine Alexandra
Clementine Alice
Clementine Ellen
Clementine Laura
Clementine Violet
Clementine Nancy

From my list above, I really like the simplicity of Clementine Anna and Clementine Ellen. Otherwise Clementine Sylvie makes me smile.

raindrop83 · 04/07/2020 05:42

@thistimelastweek I know what you mean, I question the point of a middle name myself!😂

OP posts:
thistimelastweek · 03/07/2020 23:10

Why have a middle name at all? If it has no emotional/ family meaning, why bother?
I'm not trying to be controversial here, just honest. I gave my children middle names. Looking back i can't remember the point.

frenchfancy81 · 03/07/2020 23:00

Tangerine? 🍊 Sorry, been a long week...but it would sound cool 😀
