Down to two...

Hummingbird82 · 02/07/2020 11:34

My baby boy will be here in a couple of weeks and picking a name has been a thousand times more difficult than we anticipated Shock

We are now down to two names, but like them both equally so would love to hear what others think.

Owen - Nice and neutral, good for a baby and good for a man in my opinion.

Wyatt - You'd think American but it's actually old english and I love the meaning.

Both names go well with surname, which do you prefer?

Definitely Owen!

Otis?
Ryan?

Tinamou · 05/07/2020 12:29

Modern names - you mean like Wyatt Earp who was born in 1848?! Smile

mummy2myJJ · 05/07/2020 12:27

Like both but prefer Wyatt as I like modern names x

zingally · 05/07/2020 12:18

I like both.

I've known a few Owen's in my time, and they've always been lovely boys/men.

Wyatt is certainly unique... but perhaps a bit Americanised?

CormoranStrike · 05/07/2020 07:59

Owen by a mile for me.

Wyatt, as well as sounding western also is a surname not a first name to my ears.

DorotheaHomeAlone · 05/07/2020 04:02

Owen is lovely. Very solid but gentle. Wyatt feels faintly ridiculous by comparison.

Emmmie · 05/07/2020 03:42

Noone sees Owen and thinks “oven”? I do 😕

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 03/07/2020 16:38

Owen is the loveliest name in the world. (I have an Owen so very biased Grin)

Ishouldtryabiteachdayer · 03/07/2020 12:23

*love 🤦‍♀️

Ishouldtryabiteachdayer · 03/07/2020 12:23

Owen .. Wyatt I thought was a is a hotel chain but it's Hyatt. I just don't like surnames as names.

I have a young son with an less used name and I live his name, but I do regret it in some ways, as he never gets invited to parties ( I think parents are unsure what their children are saying when they say his name.) people misspell it all the time, even the teachers.

SilverOtter · 03/07/2020 11:55

(And obviously I meant Wyatt not Wyett🤦🏻‍♀️)

SilverOtter · 03/07/2020 11:54

Although, I also agree with the PP who said wait until you meet him. One might suit him and the other not, in which case decision made ✅

SilverOtter · 03/07/2020 11:53

Another vote for Wyett here🙋🏻‍♀️

NataliaOsipova · 03/07/2020 11:52

Owen. Definitely.

finallychangedmyusername · 03/07/2020 11:45

I really like Owen. I'm not keen on Wyatt sorry.

RuddyP · 03/07/2020 10:09

I like wyatt but it is very american sounding. I've never met a British person with the name wyatt. Wyatt is an English surname not a first name. Owen is lovely.

Itsjustabitofbanter · 03/07/2020 09:36

If you’re down to two, wait until he’s here and see what suits him better

BeMorePacific · 03/07/2020 09:36

Owen gets my vote xx

Borris · 03/07/2020 09:34

Owen a million times nicer

Zombiemum07 · 03/07/2020 09:23

Ha ha @ElspethFlashman! Now that is a movie I would watch!

Another vote for Owen here. Wason our list for a while too but we were put off by the lack of nick names. Don’t ask me why this is important to us!

CaffiSaliMali · 03/07/2020 08:38

I prefer Owen which is currently ranked at 118 in England and Wales so it's not that popular.

Wyatt makes me think of Wat Tyler and the Peasants' Revolt.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 03/07/2020 08:07

Just makes me think of Wyatt Earp with the big moustache.

Nellydean21 · 03/07/2020 04:01

Owen definitely.

mrscatalano · 03/07/2020 03:18

I don't love either but much prefer Owen. I also thought of Wyatt from Charmed. I know it's a first name but it sounds like a surname to me.

Have you been watching lots of 90s tv in lockdown because Owen made me think of the baby from Party Of Five.

Bouncingbelle · 03/07/2020 02:23

Owen. I love this name.

Wyatt, whilst ok, sounds like “why it?” To me. Tho would fit in well with all the Cooper/Carter/Parker surnames as first names at the moment.
