Having DS2. My dad is called Tony. He has been a big huge support in my life and DS1. Is it too outdated?

I love Antonio nn Tony

I really like it. Anthony on bc and then Tony as a nn.

Toilenstripes · 02/07/2020 23:02

Love Anthony with Tony as a nn.

4amWitchingHour · 02/07/2020 23:00

Antonio on the BC - gives him options even if you're going to call him Tony :)

morefun · 02/07/2020 22:58

I love Tony!

ViveLEntenteCordiale · 02/07/2020 22:57

My Dad was Tony, full name Anthony. I've known another couple of lovely Tonys too in my own generation (born late 1960s). So I like the name but it feels dated. I agree with some others, Anthony has aged better so maybe use that so he/you have a choice.

HemulenHouse · 02/07/2020 22:56

I’d just go for it. No point dancing around it - if he’s meant to be a little Tony, then he’s meant to be a little Tony. There are lots of note acceptable variations of my daughter’s name but I’m so glad we didn’t compromise.

helpmum2003 · 02/07/2020 22:56

I like it.

Personally would use Anthony then has choice of that or Tony or Ant. Could there be confusion if they have exactly the same name? We used same name as a grandfather but use a different nn.

lottiegarbanzo · 02/07/2020 22:50

I like Antonio. What do you think about Ant?

Clevererthanyou · 02/07/2020 22:48

2boysinapod - he’s seven now and he is strictly a Tony and not an Anthony or any other name as he will happily tell people who try calling him Anthony 😁 Trust me, when your child gets to school there will be a vast ocean of unusual names in his class and Tony will be borderline dull by comparison...

2boysinapod · 02/07/2020 21:38

@Clevererthanyou thats lovely! How old is he if you don't mind me asking?

I am not keen on Anthony, Anton.

I have a Tony, it suits him and nobody has an issue with it. If it makes you happy and all that ☺️

resm · 01/07/2020 22:44

Antoin (Irish for Anthony), Anton or Antony are options for the BC if you don’t like Anthony.

orangejuicer · 01/07/2020 08:25

Another one for Anthony on the bc but Tony for short.

5LeafPenguin · 01/07/2020 08:23

Tony sounds great for a little boy. Different in a good way and lovely for your dad. I would go for Anthony on the bc personally.

BeMorePacific · 01/07/2020 08:16

I’d give him an Antonio/Antony/Anton etc
That way he has the choice of Ant or Tony at school. xx

FirstClassFlightHome · 30/06/2020 23:42

Oh, I love it! Retro cool! And I'm sure your Dad would be thrilled, too.

RollingWithMyGnomies · 30/06/2020 23:41

Tony is a fabulous name in it’s own right, absolutely love it. If it’s what you want go for it OP!

MushyPeasAreTheDevilsFood · 30/06/2020 23:32

I Am surrounded by adult tonys. I teach in a multi ethnic school and honestly children dont bat an eyelid at names.

Id definitely go anthony on the bc though. Nobody needs to actually know that. I actually know someone who goes by tony short for thomas. He chose tony because thomas was so unfashionable when he was young 😂.

2boysinapod · 30/06/2020 23:30

I have no Italian roots. DS1 has a german name. I have a spanish name. It's all over the place in my family Grin.

My two year old is called Anthony ( great grandad & same birthday ) . His dad calls him tony I call him anth as not keen on Tony. I like the other name you have or, like suggested, as a middle name ?

123Dancewithme · 30/06/2020 23:16

I’d use Anthony or Anton unless you have Italian roots.

daisypond · 30/06/2020 21:20

Antonio seems a bit odd to me if you haven’t Italian links. And yet Tony on its own doesn’t appeal to me.
Anton - with Tony for short?

2boysinapod · 30/06/2020 21:16

So Tony being the first name on BC or Antonio?

I'm brave enough to use Tony but I won't be telling dad until hes born.

Love it. A million times better than Ollie/ Charlie etc names. It suits someone of any age.

yourestandingonmyneck · 30/06/2020 21:13

I really like it
