Baby boy due next month, was going to be Theodore...

Despite a lifetime of name loving, my baby boy and first born is due next month and we are still debating a name.

I thought we were settled on Theodore but husband has now said he’s not sure. Hmm

Names we have discussed:
Jasper
Rowan
Oscar
Eli(jah)
Felix
Rupert
Barnaby

Can anyone throw some suggestions at me? Just seem to flick through the name guides thinking ‘no, no, no’ - nothing seems to fit Confused I would love something that’s cute for a little boy (Or has sweet nicknames) but also suited to a grown man.

Theo/dore/Teddy has shot up the popularity charts - I know so many - that I fear it may soon fall out of fashion and start to sound 'dated'.

missyB1 · 28/06/2020 19:58

I’m about to say something controversial! I work in a nursery and every Theodore I have looked after has been a very tricky child! I’m sure it’s pure fluke but has totally put me off the name forever!

grufallosfriends · 28/06/2020 19:55

Theo is a good name though, that’s why it’s popular. I know 7 between the age of 2 and 9.

And that's why it will eventually fall out of fashion and sound dated!

Whatsyourflava · 28/06/2020 16:11

What about the name Thoe has your husband gone off? Is it just a general feeling or because he prefers another name or he wants something more traditional etc? @Juniper27 x

By the way I love Theodore so much so understand why you're disappointed and I hope your husband comes back to the name ❤️

If you like Theo what about Milo or Arlo?

Onestepup · 28/06/2020 12:32

I like Jasper and Felix.

My daughter recently had a baby boy
We considered the following names for months
Noah ( my favourite)
Teddy
William
James
And finally she settled and chose Logan
He is Logan Thomas and I have already started calling him Logie Bear lol

Magicbabywaves · 28/06/2020 11:46

Jasper, Rupert, Barnaby are really lovely and less 'trendy' and more timeless than Theo/dore which is very fashionable at the moment.

Flowerpowersy · 28/06/2020 10:56

Theodore/Theo has become SO popular so quickly that it'll probably start to fall out fashion and sound dated.

From your suggestions I much prefer Jasper and Rowan. Or how about Reuben or Quentin? I'd go god a more timeless classic name!

Juniper27 · 28/06/2020 10:39

Thanks so much for your suggestions. I love Wilfred and Kit too. Just reading through this thread I’m starting to think the problem is I’m so attached to Theodore I keep dismissing everything else Blush I’m going to speak to my husband about it again..

Theodore - love this name, hope your husband comes back round
Jasper - love it , one of my favourites
Rowan - prefer for a girl. Don't like nickname Row. Name is too similar to load of other trendy names (Roman/Rohan/Roan/Ronan) for my tastes.
Oscar - love it
Eli(jah) - prefer just Eli - love that name
Felix - a great choice
Rupert - not so keen
Barnaby - adore it - one of my favourites and very underused. Love nickname Barns or Barney

RickOShay · 28/06/2020 10:05

Out of your choices I like Eli the best.

RickOShay · 28/06/2020 10:04

Conrad

Sholto

Arlo

Christian nn Kit

Rafael

Hi @Juniper27

My DP and I really struggled to agree on boys names. I think girls are easier to name.

Jasper - how about Casper/Kasper? Although may get a bit of teasing (Casper the friendly ghost)
Rowan - Not keen on this one.
Oscar - Love!
Eli(jah) - Not keen on this one.
Felix - Love! But may have a bit of teasing (Felix the Cat)
Rupert - Not a fan.
Barnaby - Not a fan. Bit old fashioned.

Theodore/Theo/Teddy are lovely!

Some other suggestions:
Zachary (Zach/Zac)
Dylan
Joshua (Josh)
Jack
Harrison (Harry)
Finley/Finlay (Fin)
Oliver (Oli)
Miles/Milo
Cillian

Love Theodore!
I even like Theo as a full name, it works well as a baby and a full grown adult in my opinion.

SauvignonBlanketyBlank · 28/06/2020 09:54

Imo Theodore is nicer than the other options

chubbyhotchoc · 28/06/2020 09:52

Don't go with Barnaby. It's really awful and the only one I know is an arsehole

Magicbabywaves · 28/06/2020 09:52

I’ve got a Rufus, also considered Jasper and Felix.

Theodore is nice, but there’s a fair few around if that bothers you.

Angus
Oscar
Hamish were also on my list.

chubbyhotchoc · 28/06/2020 09:52

Reuben?
My boy name was going to be Douglas (Dougie) but I'm having a girl

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 28/06/2020 09:48

I’m expecting DD2 but if she’d been a boy, we’d chosen Theodore. I love it.

Of your other names, I prefer Jasper or Elijah. Not keen on the rest.

FizzyGreenWater · 28/06/2020 09:44

Theo’s super popular, though lovely. Rufus?

Bouledeneige · 28/06/2020 09:36

I really like Theodore though I'd stick with calling them Theo.

I also like Tobias and Alexander. And Hamish.

JayeAshe · 28/06/2020 09:23

True story: while volunteer ing at a stall taking entries for a community family event, along came a small boy age 7ish - with his mum - to sign up
Me: What is your name?
Him: Widor (pron. Vidor)
Me (thinks, oh, nice Polish name or similar) : you know there was a famous composer with that name, organ toccata, witter, witter ...
Write your name on this form:
yup. T H E O D O R E ...

daisypond · 28/06/2020 09:22

I like your names apart from Elijah/Eli, which has a very different vibe and doesn’t fit the rest of your list.
Benedict
Dominic
Marcus
Guy
Laurence
Nicholas
