Help! Baby arriving Tuesday and we have no name 😬

Itsgottobethisone · 26/06/2020 07:27

My choice is
Stanley

My partner wants
Seth

We can’t agree 😢

I’m thinking
Stanley Atticus
Stanley Gabriel
Stanley Seth
He’s thinking
Seth And won’t bloody budge!
Is 2 names beginning with S an issue.? One being the middle name so wouldn’t be used much at all. Or do I agree to call the baby Seth (which I don’t not like, I just love Stanley) and use Stanley as a middle name that I can then use if I want to.
I hate the thought of baby arriving and then not been given a name but we haven’t been able to agree for over 4 months so I can’t see it happening by Tuesday!

We have gone through thousands of other names but partner is Insistent it’s Seth (or he’d like to use his name but our other son has that as a middle name so I’m not keen)

Help

I like Stanley, not keen on Seth.

emmathedilemma · 26/06/2020 09:46

I love Stanley! Not a fan of Seth although I know one so it's grown on me over the last few years.

Thunderbolted · 26/06/2020 09:40

Very true @whatsyourflava. I think it was knowing these friends I was expecting something a bit more out there. I think the name they chose was the number 1 that year (and many other years).

Whatsyourflava · 26/06/2020 09:36

@Thunderbolted it might have been a boring name to you but obviously not to them! Just because a name is common doesn't mean less thought, love or care has gone into it. I know plenty of people choosing between very different names- one friend was picking between "Emily" and "Delphine" and many other obscure names - took them ages to eventually settle on Emily x

Thunderbolted · 26/06/2020 09:31

See how you feel once he's born, there's no rush. We had a shortlist but when he was born I wasn't feeling any of them. He was unnamed for a week or 2 until we decided on a brand new name we both loved.

My friends waited until they were driving to the registry office on the last possible day (day 40?) to name their son. It was a really boring name in the end, I couldn't work out what had taken them so long!

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 26/06/2020 09:26

I think Seth Stanley Surname would work absolutely fine, and is better for some reason than Stanley Seth.

I love the name Stanley, it was on my list, sadly but understandably vetoed by OH (and my family!) as it was the name of an iconic family pet.
Seth reminds me of Cold Comfort Farm, which is no bad thing...

Haz1516 · 26/06/2020 09:26

I prefer Seth, but don't mind Stanley.

How about Sidney or Saul?

Mosquitobite · 26/06/2020 09:22

I like both! Maybe choose a different name so neither of you gets upset..

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 26/06/2020 09:20

They are both great names. Personally I love Seth but it does seem to get a marmite reaction from people....

AugieMarch · 26/06/2020 09:19

There’s no rush. You don’t have to decide until well after your baby arrives. I know that’s not conventional but you really don’t. My best friend didn’t announce her first child’s name for 6 weeks as they couldn’t agree and didn’t have to register it until then, so they took their time and told everyone to be patient. With her second it was the same. Now, 9 years later, no one cares. Take your time and don’t feel pressured into a name you aren’t keen on.

Harpischord · 26/06/2020 09:14

Not Stanley. There are loads about now. It's going to get bigger over the next few years.

Whatsyourflava · 26/06/2020 09:11

Seth Stanley or Stanley Seth would be great. I wouldn't worry about the repeated S.

99.9% of the time, first name only is used anyway. It's more important to have a middle name you like (incase he decides when old enough to go by that name instead), rather than one which flows

Whatsyourflava · 26/06/2020 09:07

Stanley and Seth are both two of my favourite names! You both have great taste!

How about Sidney nn Sid? It really grows on you as a name - I know a little Sid and he's the coolest kid ever

Happywith2 · 26/06/2020 08:52

I like both. You might feel different when the baby is born. Your partner might change his mind.
When our daughter was born husband wanted an awful name and that was the only one he liked, but when she was born, he changed his mind and said the name didn’t “suit” her. Our son was a week old before he was named.

123Dancewithme · 26/06/2020 08:42

Seth is much nicer than Stanley!

LadyGAgain · 26/06/2020 08:33

I like both. I'd choose Stanley. My worry with Seth (which I appreciate is over thinking) is if he has a lisp Seth becomes a bit cruel! And you won't know until he's 2.

Itsgottobethisone · 26/06/2020 08:31

Too close to our other sons name 😢

chubbyhotchoc · 26/06/2020 08:28

Stanley is awful. There was an old pedo lived down the road from us called Stanley. Seth i have no feelings about.
What about Seb ( Sebastian)

Itsgottobethisone · 26/06/2020 08:27

@onlyconnect that’s the thing neither hate each other’s choices. I like Seth but have fallen in love with Stanley. My partner did like Stanley until he heard the name Seth and now he wants that as the first name but still likes Stanley enough to use it as a middle name (I’m just not sure about to S’s together) if we both disliked the names we’d just say No, as we have done with thousands of other names.

OP posts:
onlyconnect · 26/06/2020 08:21

If either of you doesn't like a name it should be off the list! I can't believe that both of you are trying to push the other to a name they don't like.
Drop Stanley and Seth and start making a new list thinking widely. There are thousands of names and there must be one that you both like.

helpasisout · 26/06/2020 08:19

both are nice but Stanley is my favourite of the two.

BeMorePacific · 26/06/2020 08:17

I adore Stanley. Such a great name.
Seth just reminds me of the OC, I’m not a huge fan of it.
My advice is wait until the baby is here.. you just look up at your other half after giving birth to your beautiful baby boy and say “can we call him Stanley?”... it’s almost impossible to say no to 😂🙈
x

missmouse101 · 26/06/2020 08:13

I like Seth and dislike Stanley. I agree with waiting until after he's born. You've plenty of time to decide.

chillied · 26/06/2020 08:09

For both our kids we can tell them, if Dad had names you, you'd be x, If I'd named you you'd be y, but in fact we bith agreed on z. I think they find it a fun thought experiment.

I was persuaded into DSs middle name which I now don't like, so I don't recommend just agreeing to if you're not sure.

Go back to the baby books, each write a list, see where there is crossover.

rodentfeet · 26/06/2020 08:00

what about steve, every one i know called steve is a decent person lol i think names are over thought about because once that child has a name and you use it all the time it will just become part of them and you will wonder what the fuss was about, it just ends up fitting..and you love that child whatever their name, you dont love a child because of their name , so i wouldnt over worry
