Help! Baby arriving Tuesday and we have no name 😬

My choice is
Stanley

My partner wants
Seth

We can’t agree 😢

I’m thinking
Stanley Atticus
Stanley Gabriel
Stanley Seth
He’s thinking
Seth And won’t bloody budge!
Is 2 names beginning with S an issue.? One being the middle name so wouldn’t be used much at all. Or do I agree to call the baby Seth (which I don’t not like, I just love Stanley) and use Stanley as a middle name that I can then use if I want to.
I hate the thought of baby arriving and then not been given a name but we haven’t been able to agree for over 4 months so I can’t see it happening by Tuesday!

We have gone through thousands of other names but partner is Insistent it’s Seth (or he’d like to use his name but our other son has that as a middle name so I’m not keen)

Help

Stanley is great, love it.

I think Seth is horrible. It sounds weak, lispy and sort of slithery. As you can tell, I don't like it at all.

donttouchmyhair · 26/06/2020 21:33

Seth is lovely. Hate Stanley.

finallychangedmyusername · 26/06/2020 21:18

I really like Seth, but not a fan of Stanley. Is a compromise name not a possibility?

Midway between the two would probably be something traditional...

Thomas
Henry
Patrick
Michael

Or if you're keen on the letter S, Simon, Samuel?

user1493494961 · 26/06/2020 18:24

I prefer Gabriel, but Seth is better than Stan.

sweetnosugar · 26/06/2020 18:01

Stanley is lovely. Not keen on Seth at all.
Maybe wait til baby is born some people find it easier to name baby when they see their face, or think of other options. It’s got to be a name you both love after all. Me and DH just knew when we found the right names for our little humans! Nothing worst than hearing other mums in my social circle that have name regret.

Lumie123 · 26/06/2020 17:53

I know a little Seth and Stanley, I'd find it difficult to chose also, I think Stanley sounds a little more interesting.

Alwaysundecided · 26/06/2020 17:13

I prefer Seth. Imagine him as a teen and a young man. Seth is cool, Stanley isn't. Although I suppose Stan is quite a good nickname. Sorry not helping.
I personally would go Seth but you can't have Seth Stanley it's like a tongue twister. Stanley Seth sounds fine.
You really need to love the name though. If you really really want Stanley push hard for it. It's not like it's a name your DH doesn't like.

Scrumpyjacks · 26/06/2020 14:31

I like Stanley.
If your partner wants to choose the name he can birth the baby himself...

Itsgottobethisone · 26/06/2020 14:30

I’m not sure. It’s definitely between Stanley and Seth. May just have to be patient and see what he looks like and decide once’s he’s here 🙈

Have we helped @Itsgottobethisone

chocolicious · 26/06/2020 14:23

I always think of Stanley as an old fashioned name.

autumnkate · 26/06/2020 14:15

Gabriel is a million percent nicer than Stanley or Seth

Prettybluepigeons · 26/06/2020 13:16

Stanley is fucking AWFUL. Really awful.

Seth is sweet.

Quizeerascal · 26/06/2020 13:15

Who's going to push him out? I think you win Wink, both lovely names

SnowdropFox · 26/06/2020 12:45

Going against the grain here but I really dont like them together! Probably because I dislike Stanley.
I agree with what other pps have said. If you cannot agree, neither get their first choice. Otherwise you could end up resenting the other and wanting the name changed anyway.

Cbeebiesrehab · 26/06/2020 10:56

Seth is my favourite boys name but OH vetoed it☹️ We went with Jude.

I don’t like Stanley, not sure why as I like the old name trend. I think Seth Stanley sounds fine. If you can’t pick between them then I would say find a third more neutral name that you both agree on.

xmummy2princesx · 26/06/2020 10:50

I really like Stanley

sitckmansladylove · 26/06/2020 10:47

I'm not keen on either but I do think wait until you meet the baby if you are not sure. Or start again. Have a look through some online lists and rule out ones you don't like together.

CatteStreet · 26/06/2020 10:44

Stanley will date terribly as an 'early 21st century old man chic' name. Also not keen on it at all, personally. I like Seth better but not hugely so,. Gabriel's quite nice - classic and international and suits all ages.

bridgetreilly · 26/06/2020 10:39

Seth Stanley.

Unless your surname sounds like it might be a ship...

Bubbletrouble43 · 26/06/2020 10:26

Fwiw when we had our twins dp was fixated on a girls name I wasn't mad about, didn't dislike, was just indifferent to. We did name one twin his choice and it's really grown on me, I love it as much as the other twins name which was my choice and longstanding favourite name ever.

Anappleaday1 · 26/06/2020 10:14

I absolutely love Stanley! It's what dd would have been called if she was a boy and 5 years on I still love it. I haven't met another one and although it's popularity has grown I don't think it will ever be uber popular. Seth is nice too, but seems a bit more trendy to me.
I can totally emphasise with your frustration about agreeing. My dh was the same, he was fixated on one name and wouldn't really discuss others. We went for it in the end and in hindsight I wish we had just waited, I don't know why I felt the need for baby to have a name straight away and I do think if we'd waited a day or so after the birth we would probably have had a more effective discussion. She suits her name, but I always wonder "what if she was..."

Whatsyourflava · 26/06/2020 10:09

Caleb is another nice biblical name I associate with Seth

Yes see what you mean @Thunderbolted ❤️

Bubbletrouble43 · 26/06/2020 10:07

I like Stanley more too op. Fingers crossed he will do what a friends husband did having watched her birth the baby and be so grateful and in awe he conceded to her choice of name 👍😁

CaffiSaliMali · 26/06/2020 10:02

I would drop both Stanley and Seth (and DH's name) and try and find something new which you can both agree on.

Biblical names like Seth and Gabriel:
Ethan
Reuben
Jacob
Joseph
James
Amos
Asa
Asher
Noah
Michael
Raphael
Jonah
Josiah
Nathaniel

Names like Stanley:
Walter
Arthur
Reginald
Wilfred
Vincent
Terrence

At least birth registrations are delayed at the moment so you have longer to choose than usual Smile
