Scandinavian Names

Very early to be thinking of names as we're still TTC but I guess it doesn't hurt to know we're at least on the same page as each other.

DP has Scandinavian heritage and surname so I'd like to honour that at least by using the Scandi spelling of relatively common names.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

Silvia (this one has a family connection for me too)

Sadly the two boys names I've always loved are both ruled out as one is a derivative of my XH's surname and the other is DP's name!

Thanks all; Yep we are looking at names from his home country but as a lot of friends use Mumsnet and nobody knows we're TTC I've had to go a bit stealth here Wink

Ps.. I didn't like Astrid at first but it's growing on me after all these suggestions. Added to the list of potentials.

I'm Scandinavian, it really does matter which country your dh is from, we have different names Wink.

Lars? If you watch some scandi programmes, you can get ideas from there. I like how they pronounce names differently, eg, patrick is potrik.

Johanna is so pretty and very cool for a girl.

Magnus is a strong name.

Anneke, Freya, and Ingrid are also very Scandinavian.

I love the name Astrid... google it OP, lots of beautiful names to choose from... make sure tho you get pronunciation correct. I've lots of foreign family who go for heritage names but put there own pronunciation on it...when the come for holiday with very locally recognisable names, they think it is quaint & cute how we 'say it wrong'! Em...no! So, if going for heritage name...make sure you pronounce it correctly...

Which Scandinavian country is he from? They aren't all the same. Better to look for names from the actual country your DH is from.

They'll spend their lives having to spell the name as people will get it 'wrong'. Just go with the anglicised spelling if you live in the UK.

Instead of Sofia you could add Sofie - much more scandinavian than Sofia
