Axelina

WDYT of this name? I'm seriously falling for it and been considering it for the past few days. It's mostly used in Scandinavia from what I gather and I actually did meet a Swedish girl named Axelina about 10 years ago maybe.

I'm just not sure what kind of vibes it would give to other people? I love the name Alexandra but it does feel a bit meh sometimes and I think Axelina has a very similar vibe yet slightly different so I'm loving it but still having mini second thoughts.

Axelabella 😂🤣

MikeUniformMike · 22/06/2020 15:55

It's too plain. Axeliana would be more current, or how about Axelabella.

BingPot720 · 22/06/2020 07:35

I'm not sure on Axelina, it reminds me of Thomasina and Nigella, a male name feminised quite clunkily.

My ds goes to school with a girl called Esalina/Isalina (I'm not sure how it's spelled, pronounced EEsaLEENa) and I think that's really pretty.

Immigrantsong · 22/06/2020 06:51

@DPotter

Not Melina - please not Melina. Nothing against Mrs Trump but ask any nurse or doctor about melina / meleana and you'll get a screwed up face
That is Melania Trump.

Melina comes from Meli which means honey in Greek. It only has negative connotations in the meleana version in English.

It is very popular in the continent and connected to sweetness due to it's honey prefix.

cheercaptain · 22/06/2020 01:13

Another no for Axelina. Or Alexina. Alexis maybe but not a big fan.

Amiable · 22/06/2020 00:54

Alexina yes , Axelina no

I think people were surprisingly restrained.

user32742534 · 22/06/2020 00:31

I honestly wonder if this name sounds very different in different regional accents. I love unusual names, but Axelina sounds very harsh and not like a name at all to me. Axel is kind of cool, but to add the very feminine ending on just doesn't seem to flow. I live in an area where an A and X have quite a harsh pronunciation though, maybe with a southern accent it would sound softer?

A bigger consideration to make though, is that I bet if would trigger Alexa devices accidentally a lot...

Miljea · 22/06/2020 00:21

See, here, on this forum, you have a mass pile in, responding to your query about the 'vibes' around 'Axelina'.

Turns out you were only interested in validation, not opinion. Which you'll get in spades, this being-um- MN.

iwilltaktetwoplease loves its Yooneek'ness, so, hey, go for it.

iwilltaketwoplease · 22/06/2020 00:14

Well I think it's lovely and unique OP.

BackforGood · 22/06/2020 00:08

What Miljea said

If you are doubtful enough to need it validated, then you can't pick and choose the replies.
The whole point of asking anonymous strangers for their honest opinions, is to find out what everyone would be thinking, if you give your chosen name to a child to have to use for the next 90 years.

Better to know that's what people will be thinking now, before you make the decision what to call the baby, than give them that name and find out down the line that is the reaction they will be getting for years and decades to come, I'd have thought.

If you are confident enough that it is such a great name, then don't ask what people think. In this forum, you will get honesty, whether you like it or not.

Miljea · 21/06/2020 23:46

gameboyy you said you'd left- but actually, you hadn't.

Ask yourself this: Why am I seeking the opinions of an actually quite well respected parenting site regarding what I might name my child?

Is it because I'm unsure but seeking validation for a controversial name?

How do I think I will respond if it transpires that the majority advise against it, when some do it in a 'not gentle' way? Might I flounce and call them 'rude'?

Or might I take heed and thus prevent my child suffering years of potential ridicule at school if I insist on this name? Given that it apparently, doesn't garner the public seal of approval?

Have you considered 'Haven' ? 😉

I asked for honesty, not rudeness. You'd be surprised to know they are not the same.

My first thought was guns n roses but I don't dislike it. So if the connection doesn't put you off I personally don't see a problem.

AWiseWomanOnceSaidFuckThisShit · 21/06/2020 23:11

I'm sorry if MY comment is one of the ones that offended you OP but you did ask for honesty and that's honestly what I think - I would tell a friend the exact same thing.

StripeyBananas · 21/06/2020 23:10

It's lovely OP.

stophuggingme · 21/06/2020 23:09

It’s awful

gameboyy · 21/06/2020 23:08

I appreciate all of your comments and particularly grateful to those people that even managed to express your dislike for the name while still being slightly civilised and not resorting to making fun of it. And those that suggested some really lovely alternatives, thank you!

I will leave this thread and do not intend on coming back. I did create it to hear people's opinions and comments and was definitely open to hearing negative feedback but I will not tolerate being bullied/made fun of just because of my name choice like some of you have done. I thought mature adults were on this forum but I guess I was wrong.

I wish you all a very nice evening and I hope one day some of you manage to learn it doesn't hurt to be nice (even when you disagree or dislike something) 💛

I'm from Sweden, my great grandfather's first name was Axel. I've never heard of anyone named Axelina, and sorry I do not like it. Axel is an old-fashioned boys name which has become popular in recent decades. I was close to naming my ds Axel ten years ago but decided against it and named him Alexander instead as we live in the UK. Alex and Alexandra are softer sounding than Axel equivalent.

AWiseWomanOnceSaidFuckThisShit · 21/06/2020 22:59

Whenever people ask for name opinions on here I imagine what my reaction would be if I heard a parent calling out to their child in the shop. I'd laugh my tits off with this one sorry!

Dhalandchips · 21/06/2020 22:58

Will she have a little sister called slasherella one day?

Arnoldthecat · 21/06/2020 22:54

NO

ozymandiusking · 21/06/2020 22:53

Not very nice

gameboyy · 21/06/2020 22:53

YourWinter If you have nothing nice to say (even if it's a negative comment) please don't say anything at all.
