We still have three months to go before our baby boy is born. I was convinced it was a girl, so the boys list is starting from scratch and it's so hard!!!

DP and I have different tastes. I want Lysander, he wants something more common.

Please tell me what you think and make any suggestions!

Percy (I love, family name, but it's very marmite)
Freddie (short for something - not keen on Frederick but want a proper name for BC)
Sebastian (DP likes, I'm a bit meh and don't like Seb)
Caspar
Louis

Thanks

Percy - i like.
Freddie - too popular and not sure whY else you could make it short for
Sebastian - I know 1 Seb but 2 Sebastians shortened to Bash which I prefer
Caspar- I like a lot
Louis- I like but v v v popular

Suggestions: Leo, Ludo, Herbert, Luca, jasper, Ernest

captainraymondholt · 22/06/2020 10:51

Percy - don't like.
Freddie - too popular
Sebastian - I love this but I love Seb as a nn too
Caspar - really like
Louis - it's ok but it's so popular, I'm bored of it. Also some people pn it Lewis which really annoys me!

Sebastian or Caspar for me.

I prefer less used names myself, but I actually like all these names a lot. Casper and Louis my favourites. I'd advise against Freddie because it's so popular that, if you had another you'd never have scope for a future Lysander or a more unusual girl's name, you'd have to go with another popular name or it wouldn't go.

What about Miles, Rupert, Tobias, Stanley, Rowan, Otto, Lawrence/Laurie, Sandy, Felix, Rufus.

Tootletum · 22/06/2020 00:19

Jus call him Richard. There are literally nine under 40!

Kittymitty38 · 22/06/2020 00:15

Not Percy (!) I like Freddie and Louis

gameboyy · 21/06/2020 22:43

Percy - Love it! I know it usually gets negative comments but it's one of my favourites
Freddie - I actually love Frederic but don't like Freddie for some reason
Sebastian - I have never liked it and I actually know plenty of them, sorry
Caspar - I like the Casper spelling a tiny bit more
Louis - I like the sound of it but I would prefer it to be Lewis

Overall I would say Percy, Frederick and Caspar are the top 3

roarfeckingroar · 21/06/2020 22:39

@Bbq1 I couldn't go with Jolyon because of the fox killing barrister - but it's a great name

Lysander is lovely. I like the Shakespeare connection and love some other literary names - Jolyon and Linton, which I considered when pregnant with our ds but dh didn't like them.

roarfeckingroar · 21/06/2020 20:58

@MikeUniformMike a Jilly Cooper character. Girls: Harriet, Elodie, Jasmine, Aurelia.

Lysander is awful. Love Caspar.

zingally · 21/06/2020 20:08

Lysander is awful.

I actually quite like Percy! But it might be a bit... twee?

Freddie is nice as well. But I can't understand the whole thing of having a "proper" name for the BC. Embrace what you like, and call him Freddie. No one will bat an eyelid.

whatagonnahappennow · 21/06/2020 19:49

Caspar, Sebastian and Louis are my fave.

Whatsyourflava · 21/06/2020 17:50

Worth bearing in mind @roarfeckingroar that a few years ago on Mumsnet all these horrified penis comments were made about the name Ralph. It's now a top 100 name. Don't let us put you off, we're a few years behind the curve. Percy is an amazing name

fantasmasgoria1 · 21/06/2020 16:45

A few years back a work colleague had a son called percy. He was from a different country and there the name was fine. His son unfortunately got bullied and they had to use his middle name. For their daughter born here they definitely considered the name more carefully!

BiggerBoat1 · 21/06/2020 16:44

Don't like Caspar at all. All the others are ok. Percy is a good name.

022828MAN · 21/06/2020 16:43

I LOVE Casper and wanted to use it for our son but DH was not having it. I'm still gutted about it.

Roselilly36 · 21/06/2020 16:41

I love Lysander, I am not keen on the other choices if I am honest. As PP has said I like Tristan, Christopher & Curtis.

littlealexhorne · 21/06/2020 16:36

I only really like Sebastian from your list, but that's actually one of my favourite boys names

17caterpillars1mouse · 21/06/2020 16:31

Whilst I like Lysander in theory, I think I would hate to be a teenage boy called Lysander

Percy - I like it and know a 4 year old Percy. I love Percival nn Percy

Freddie (short for something - not keen on Frederick but want a proper name for BC) - dislike Freddy whereas I like Frederick and Fred

Sebastian (DP likes, I'm a bit meh and don't like Seb). - I like, I know 3 under 3 though. I like Basti but imagine most won't

Caspar - not a fan. I think friendly ghost

Louis - they are everywhere. I feel it lacks spark

MikeUniformMike · 21/06/2020 16:11

Ah! Got it. The actor is a bit of a dish.

I like Horatio.

OhTheRoses · 21/06/2020 16:05

Lysander, like Horatio and Merlin, is marvellous if your boy is probably off to Westminster, St Paul's, Eton, Marlborough, etc. Not so much if it's the local comp.

TBF I though the same about Oscar and Louis, Frederick and Henry 25 years ago Grin

Sertchgi123 · 21/06/2020 16:01

I only like Sebastian.

MikeUniformMike · 21/06/2020 15:59

Which name had you in mind for a girl?

Who is Lysander Hawkley?

At least you haven't got Kit on your list.

finished31 · 21/06/2020 15:13

If I had to choose it would only be Seb from your list.

Nate
Barney
Noah
Theo
Jürgen (because I love Klopp)

tubbatops · 21/06/2020 15:05

Louis is my favourite boys name.
