What do you guys think of the name Essie? It would be Essie Joy Sarah Ball. Joy and Sarah are family names so they have to be included but feel free to suggest some other first names you like!☺️

Nail varnish

BabbleBee · 09/10/2020 19:06

I’d prefer Esja (pronounced Essia) to Essie.

SeanCailleach · 09/10/2020 18:55

Sweet, it will blend into the Ellies and Issies mind.

KnightError · 09/10/2020 18:43

@17caterpillars1mouse

I really like it, though prefer it as a nn

We considered it as a nn for Elspeth. Also like Esther

I think Essie Sarah Joy Ball sounds better BTW, it seems to flow a bit better

I think Joy Ball might not be a very good idea.

If your surname is Ball, it's probably wise to be particularly careful with first names, including ones which rhyme with other words.

Essie would be ok as a nn for Esther - though Hester is a lovely name.

Emmapeeler2 · 09/10/2020 18:40

Este is lovely. Esther also. Sorry, I am not keen on Essie.

Snowpatrolling · 09/10/2020 18:37

I like it,
There’s a character on holby city called Essie.
I didn’t know Essie was a nail polish brand.

AbbieFB · 09/10/2020 18:15

I’m not keen and nail polish is also my first thought.

I don’t think you should have joy next to ball either as some posters have mentioned. Joy Ball does sound a bit Ann Summers!

Pudding01 · 09/10/2020 18:13

Agree on it being a nice nn for Esther. And the full name flows and looks stronger with Esther

Garcellesaidwhaaat · 09/10/2020 18:10

Instantly thought of nail varnish.

Bessie?

len1234 · 09/10/2020 14:19

Nice a ma a nickname.

Esme or Esther would be beautiful!

user1493494961 · 09/10/2020 11:44

Agree with pp, it sounds as if it should be short for something and I also think Essie Sarah Joy flows better.

MikeUniformMike · 09/10/2020 08:08

Nail varnish or Ford Escort.

BiggerBoat1 · 09/10/2020 08:00

Sounds like a dinosaur in kids TV. Awful. Sorry!

Chottie · 09/10/2020 07:56

Nails

MercyBodle · 09/10/2020 07:56

Essie Joy Sarah sounds good I think. I'm not a big fan of nicknamey names but that is really just a matter of style and there is really nothing wrong with them. I'd much rather a timeless Essie than something super trendy and tied to a particular time such as Aria/Arya, Neveah or Hallie.

I know a teenage Essie who is actually Esther but is only ever called Essie. Essie could also be short for Esme, Estelle, Estella, Celeste.

sugasweet · 09/10/2020 04:36

It’s perfect. I’m considering it as well. I had an elderly neighbor who had that name, and she was the most precious lady.

SuperEkstra · 21/06/2020 20:11

Essi is a Finnish name.

ScrambledSmegs · 21/06/2020 19:50

I'd assume it was a nickname for Esther.

zingally · 21/06/2020 19:47

It's pretty enough, but I'd assume it was a nickname.

GoingBackTo505 · 21/06/2020 19:37

I absolutely love it. As it is, no need for anything longer or a different name for the birth certificate, although there is an instagram influencer who uses it as a NN for Estee, which I love too.

RiverMeadow · 21/06/2020 19:35

Reminds me of the nail polish.

timetest · 21/06/2020 19:34

I thought nail polish too. Sorry.

twilightcafe · 21/06/2020 19:33

Nail polish

Fisher1008 · 21/06/2020 19:31

I like it but would use as a nn to Esme

Sunflower2025 · 21/06/2020 15:58

I know a little girl called Essie, does sound cute, I know lots of little ones with cute names, Millie, Molly, Maisie ect so doesnt seem odd in these days.
