Husband and I have been discussing a 3rd baby!!!
Not sure if it will happen (only just had number 2), but discussing hypothetical boys names. He would love Edward (family name, lot of meaning to him) but I'm not sure as I pronounce it Ed- wood. Anyway would like to respect my hubby and at least have as a middle name. Thing is the other kids all have a middle name than relate to my side of the family and his last name. Was thinking we could use Maxfield as 1st name because it share the same meaning as my last name - have always loved Max.
Maxfield Edward
Thoughts?

Macsen is Maximus in Welsh.
pronounced MAX-enn not Mackson.

Dreamcatcher34 · 11/08/2020 09:23

Someone above said Macsen. Never heard of that, but love it.

Dreamcatcher34 · 11/08/2020 09:20

I prefer Maxton. Maxfield sounds like a geographical area to me.

sweetnosugar · 11/08/2020 09:19

Adore Edward, lovely name!
Not keen on Maxfield, sounds like a name of a house/building. If you wanted Max, I’d go Maximus. Although as I mentioned Edward has my vote. ☺️

FizzyGreenWater · 11/08/2020 01:21

How about Maxward? Pronounced Maxwood of course

GoshHashana · 10/08/2020 15:58

Sounds like a property developer. Maxfield Homes.

MikeUniformMike · 10/08/2020 12:38

Maxfield looks made up. A no from me.

GinWithASplashOfTonic · 10/08/2020 12:35

Really not keen on Maxfield- sounds like a middle England town used in a chic lit book

Edward is a perfectly lovely solid name , no matter how you pronounce it

TheBestLouise · 10/08/2020 12:27

My husband's grandmother's maiden name is Maxfield and we're considering it for our son's first name. Personally, I love the name Edward as well and they go well together. If you're concerned about pronunciation, call him Ed, Eddy, Ted, there are a number of nicknames you can use to get around saying his full name. Good luck and I wish you well.

Ellmau · 19/06/2020 21:43

It sounds like a house name to me.

jfoyo26 · 19/06/2020 10:42

@pegaroo I have a strong Yorkshire dialect of which I am very proud so no need to work on elocution, if it sounds stupid I just wouldn't use it. How do you pronounce it?

Looks like Maxfield is out of the question but I assure you it's definitely a name, haha!

I think Maxwell sounds nicer.

emmathedilemma · 19/06/2020 09:11

Maxfield sounds like a new housing development. Max is ok and I like Edward.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 19/06/2020 08:29

Maxfield is GHASTLY.

If you like Max, then use Max - there's Maxmillan, Maximus, or even the Welsh name Macsen. Those are all real names.

Or use Edward, which is lovely.

Pegaroo · 19/06/2020 08:23

Maybe maxfield as a middle....middle names are designed for going a bit nuts.
Edward is lovely, maybe just work on your elocution.

notso · 19/06/2020 08:21

I've never heard Edward being pronounced Ed wood. More like Ed-wud.
They sound exactly the same in my accent.

Maxfield doesn't sound right to me but I love Max. There's Maxwell, but also I like Maxton or the welsh Macsen.

Blursula · 19/06/2020 08:14

Max is lovely and there are so many nicer variations - Maxwell, Maximus, Maximilian...

DrMadelineMaxwell · 19/06/2020 08:13

@Grandadwasthatyou

I've never heard Edward being pronounced Ed wood. More like Ed-wud.
There is literally no difference between these two in my head!

Maxwell is better than Maxfield, which doesn't sound like a name.

BoudicasBoudoir · 19/06/2020 08:12

Maxfield makes me think of Maxwell Caulfield who was in Dynasty back in the day. He had a weird American accent which I later realised was because he was from Derbyshire.

I don’t like Maxfield. Sorry.

Spied · 19/06/2020 08:09

I really dislike Maxfield. It's bad. Sorry.

I pronounce Edward as Ed Word Grin.
I do like Edward.

Apolloanddaphne · 19/06/2020 08:08

I am not keen on Maxfield. It is very like the name of a house near me (Mayfield).

The whole Edward pronunciation comes down to accent as it usually does on here. I am Scottish and pronounce it Ed-word.

KingofDinobots · 19/06/2020 08:03

Maxfield sounds made up and a bit strange to me, I don’t like it sorry.

If you’re not keen on EDWARD, how about one of the names related to it or that derive from it? Eg Edison, Eduardo, Ted or Teddy?

Skyliner001 · 19/06/2020 08:03

Maxfield is terrible.

GoingBackTo505 · 19/06/2020 08:02

If you love Max, call him Max. I've never heard of Maxfield but it doesn't sound like a name.

Grandadwasthatyou · 19/06/2020 08:01

I've never heard Edward being pronounced Ed wood. More like Ed-wud.
