Crazy names you didn’t use?

Oh, is mine a list to be judged. Grin

For my 1st, I fully admit I shouldn’t have been allowed to name a cat, let alone a child. She narrowly avoided being called Keilani Aqua.

I hang my head in shame.

My 2nd escaped any really dodgy possibilities, lucky thing.

My 3rd......Well on the list were Scipio, Zealand and Rockford. I hadn’t learned my lesson from number 1.

Not saying I don’t still like them, but I know now they shouldn’t have been on the list!

What names did you have on The List, that you look back and think ‘How was I THAT crazy?’ Grin

I wanted Isambard (shortened time Sam) when I was pregnant both times, I had two girls so was spared the battle with DH!

AragornsManlyStubble · 21/06/2020 14:34

Goyle

You’ve just reminded me that Memnon ( I’m sure it is Egyptian?) was on a list for one of mine. Loved Mem as shortening.

@wither good to know! I just love it but don't know if it's just a silly thing to do!

Prayerwheel · 21/06/2020 10:55

Me, too, @Pippilangstrumpfi -- it just struck me particularly with Niamh, which is the most ordinary, bread-and-butter kind of name, even if you're of the disposition that Leon or Quentin is a bit Out There.

Wither · 21/06/2020 10:54

@heartonastring we know a Digby.

Pippilangstrumpfi · 21/06/2020 10:46

But what's 'crazy' about lots of names on here?Hmm

Lawrence, Quentin, Leon, Austin, Rafael to name few. I know kids/adults with all of these names and consider them normal names.

Prayerwheel · 21/06/2020 10:38

I loved Boris and Niamh

But what's 'crazy' about Niamh? It's pretty much the Emma or Sarah of Ireland.

Goyle · 21/06/2020 10:03

We were stuck for boys names, and DH borrowed heavily from his interest in history. So we had Ramses, Amun, and Caesar on the list. I vetoed them all.

We had a girl. I wanted something "out there" to jazz up our dull surname.

My list: Genevieve Minerva Briony Persephone Ekaterina (after Catherine the Great) Cleo, plus many others. All vetoed by dh.

We settled on a very popular top ten name in the end. Very disappointing.

longtimecomin · 21/06/2020 09:40

I loved Boris and Niamh

00100001 · 21/06/2020 08:40

I wanted Jesse, Leon or Tracy for my son... He's called none of those!

Sleepydogs · 21/06/2020 08:25

Scout
Red

And whilst on holiday in porthcawl looking out at the sea ‘Tusker’ after the rock that stands out in the bay.

All suggested by DH and firmly shut down very quickly by me.

PiggyPlumPie · 21/06/2020 08:22

Really wanted DS to have either Zinedine or Zidane as a middle name. DH put his foot down on that!

Well it was summer 2000, Euros. Grin

MintyMurray17 · 21/06/2020 08:20

@MsTSwift I am absolutely with you on Augusta! I think it's beautiful. In fact, so many of the names on this thread are completely wonderful Grin

CloudsCanLookLikeSheep · 21/06/2020 08:18

Soloman or Amon for a boy

Queenie for a girl

Actually I'd love a cat called Queenie

PrincessHoneysuckle · 21/06/2020 08:13

Rocky
Valentino (I was induced on valentine's day)
Austin

Helvetican · 21/06/2020 08:03

I once knew a family who named their children Sinbad, Zadco & Gulliver with a sister named Sheba.....fabulous names.

BellsaRinging · 21/06/2020 08:03

Ariel-still love it tbh!

lotusbell · 21/06/2020 08:01

Exh wanted Lucian. We live in the NW, can you imagine it, in my Northern accent?!

MsTSwift · 21/06/2020 08:00

Lorelei (our surname two syllables both beginning with L)

Augusta - I like but never met anyone else who does!

Both Dds now early teens hate these names so dh was right in the end

autopilotpeach · 21/06/2020 07:57

I thought about the name Ariel..after the little mermaid and then Comfort as i heard someone else was called that and thought it was nice but realised they were both products to wash clothes and they might get teased, i like the name sky aswell

heartonastring · 21/06/2020 07:48

Love this thread. Pregnant with my second and it's giving me loads if ideas haha
I desperately want to call this baby Digby if it's a boy. I have absolutely fallen in love with the name. Dh is not adverse to it either and thinks it's cute but I wonder if it's pregnancy hormones in over drive! Can anyone put me on the right track?!
If it's a girl we are going for paloma (a family name) but equally love it.

GirlCalledJames · 21/06/2020 06:52

HRH2020 · 21/06/2020 05:56

lifesnotaspectatorsport · 21/06/2020 05:50

I thought one of my kids' names would end up on this thread!

@Flyingarcher I have a Wulfric Grin known as Wulfie. It's a great name, I get a lot of compliments. His brother and sister's names are also rare/ unusual old names.
