Hello

I want RARE girl name (doesn't have to be trendy) that sounds or looks

  • sophisticated
  • educated
  • relatively strong
  • a bit literary maybe
  • beautiful (I mean the spelling)
  • it's OK if it's a bit hard to pronounce (and spell)

please give me some name suggestions!

Here are some of my favorites

  1. Joyzelle (JOY-zelle)
  2. Aoife (EE-fa)
  3. Leontyne/Leontine (lay-ON-teen)
  • I'll call her Leo as a nickname
4) Faustina (FAU-s-TINA)
  • nickname - Tina
5) Louella/Luella (loo-WELL-la) 6) Rosalind (ROSE-a-lind) 7) Rosamond/Rosamund (ROSE-a-mond) 8) Amaryllis (am-muh-REEL-lis) 9) Cassiopeia (kass-ee-OH-pi-ah)
  • nickname Cassie

Amaryllis is recognised as a name. It's used as a stock female character, often a shepherdess ("and sport with Amaryllis in the shade" - so definitely literary, but possibly not sophisticated...)

Priscilla is a strong character from the book of Acts. Probably rare enough nowadays to tick all your boxes.

Bob the Knob.

Any name has teasing potential if someone wants to find it, might as well find something you love no matter how unusual.

Covidia?

GlamGiraffe · 14/06/2020 04:31

@heyyyyyyyy are you in the US? As Joyelle and louelle definitely fo not fit your criteria by Enhlish standards IMO. Personally not sure about Amaryllis either, I think flower names are fine as long as they are recognised as names, perhaps mythological origins etc.
Both I and especially one of my sisters have unusual names and it has always been a bit of a pain with people pronouncing them strangely so I would say if you go unusual, dont go too unusual that it's very unfamiliar as when your child becomes an adult it's just annoying!
Araminta is a lovely name,
Arabella
Blythe,
Ophelia
Ottilie
Odette
Estella
xanthe (zan-thee)

Let us know what you choose.

Of course "Catering" is by far the best option so far

Joyzelle and Tina are hardly sophisticated Grin

Lozz22 · 14/06/2020 00:48

Taomi I know someone who named their little girl this. Think the pronunciation is Tay-O-Me rather then Ty-o-me and apparently the meaning is the apple of my eye. It's the name my OH have decided on for a girl when I finally fall Pregnant again.
