Is it naff? I think it sounds so pretty but I'm concerned that it sounds a bit naff. Any ideas on nicknames?

I like it. Other possibilities:

Thalia
Anouk
Evalina

EastMidsMumOf1 · 14/06/2020 00:44

Not keen, I just think of areola tbh!

Staffori · 14/06/2020 00:31

It's beautiful. I know one eight-year-old, Aurelia - pronounced Au-ray-lia.

waitingforadulthood · 13/06/2020 23:31

I'm the person who rhymes it loosely with genitalia. I say it in the same way it's said in love actually. Beautiful name. But easily negatively rhymed. At least where I live. If I lived in a "posher" place maybe I'd not understand the rhyme at all, like others don't. But without any doubt- it would be mocked here. Sadly because it's beautiful

Thank you very much for the feedback. Some interesting suggestions too. Our other girl name is Sophia but I know it's incredibly popular so I was looking for a slightly more unusual name. I love Matilda but DH doesn't. Maya also an option. I obviously like the a sound. I used to teach an Aurora so not for me!

Too frilly for me but I knew of one and it suited her 😁

daisypond · 13/06/2020 11:40

I do think it’s naff. Bland, frilly, got too many soft sounds and sounds princessy. The orally link occurs to me too, though that’d be worse if it was Aurelie. Aurelia is better than that.

MrsEricBana · 13/06/2020 11:33

Love it too. (It does not sound, even one bit, like it has anything to do with genitalia)

Minkies13 · 13/06/2020 11:29

Absolutely love this name. My husband wouldn't let me name our daughter it, even though I have an equally unusual name. We ended up with Amelia, which is still pretty but far to common.

I pronounce it 'aw-ree-li-a'

SleepingStandingUp · 13/06/2020 11:24

You def over think Mam

LadyEloise · 13/06/2020 11:09

Aurelia is too "pretty" for me, as are

Amelia
Arrabella
Emilia
Annabella

I much prefer Aurlie.

Jupiter15 · 13/06/2020 11:02

@mam0918 your way of think is very odd

mam0918 · 13/06/2020 10:19

@Jupiter15

What on earth would make you associate Aurelia with ‘genetalia’? Hmm
well I dont personally think it sounds like genetalia but as I mentioned its basically Orally-uh and where I see 'Oral' only 3 things come to mind
  1. sex
  2. teeth/dentists/brushing
  3. speaking exams

and as a teen in highschool I know which one is the most obvious and that I would hate to be assosiated to in anyway

the 'a' on the end doesnt even help as it adds to a sexual sound, just a little 'grunt' added to an already sexual word

I dont get why this and Anal based names (Analee, Analise etc...) are becoming common... they seem like cruel joke names

123Dancewithme · 13/06/2020 09:45

Definitely becoming popular, along with Aurora. It looks pretty but I don’t like the sound.

NietzschePeachPearPlum · 13/06/2020 01:04

Sounds pretentious to me.
Also very reminiscent of “areola”, the bit around the nipple.

Ellmau · 12/06/2020 23:42

I think it's beautiful and classy.

SleepingStandingUp · 12/06/2020 23:39

@TempsPerdu

Not keen. Too frilly for me, too many vowel sounds and merges into the über-girly Aurora/Amelia/Ariella/Arianna trend.

It’s undeniably pretty, but personally I much prefer stronger, more solid, less princessy names.

She has a dragon, what more do you want? 😂🐲

I adore it. Beautiful name and I wanted my daughter to be named it. BUT I chose against it because it does rhyme with genitalia and is close to areola. In the area I live it would have been a hard name to carry off and would have caused bullying .

SleepingStandingUp · 12/06/2020 23:15

I love it. Aurelia wouldn't be the kind of princess to sit there waiting for a Prince in her dress and tiara

She'd be kickass in her leather jacket and dragon but still a princess

Sk1nnyB1tch · 12/06/2020 23:12

I really like it. I would pronounce it Awe-Ree-Lee-a.
So maybe Lia as a nickname?

Poppyfields21 · 12/06/2020 23:09

One of my favourite names

mam0918 · 12/06/2020 20:07

I just see the word 'Orally' in it but spelled differently

not a fan but I do really like Aurora which others have suggested (aswell as Felicity, Cleo and Cora)

PrincessHoneysuckle · 12/06/2020 15:37

I prefer Aurora
