Ariella
Aria
Ariana
Alina
Amalia
Serena

(As you can see, i prefer names beginning with a). Also these names fit with our cultural background, that's why they are on the slightly more exotic, unfamiliar side.

@NameChange84 I absolutely agree with you, they are separate names from what I've been told, and it would be mean of someone to judge a parent based on a similar sounding name...

Really not getting the Aria = Game of Thrones connotation.

If she was called Arya fair enough. But Aria is neither spelled nor pronounced the same.

Aria to me = 1. Musical term meaning “song” 2. pretty sounding name 3. Pretty Little Liars character.

It’s like calling your child Damaris and having people say “oooohhhh like Game of Thrones”. Ummmmm no. Because that character is called Daenerys. Which, like Arya, is a completely different name.

momtoolliex · 12/06/2020 10:52

Aria is my favourite Smile

babynamelover · 12/06/2020 10:48

I really like Amalia 😍

Ylostigres · 12/06/2020 10:46

What about a timeless classic such as Anna? Or Anastasia, if you prefer a longer name? (Anya for short) Arabella is also nice, and has the option of Belle, Bella, Ary, for nicknames. Amelie, is also lovely and more classic sounding. Ariella does sound like Areola I'm afraid. Aria is fine, but will make people thinks of game of thrones, whether it's spelt/pronounced slightly differently, doesn't really matter, it's extremely similar, and Aria/Arya is becoming very common.

Teacaketotty · 12/06/2020 10:39

Yep a lot of girls have been called Arya after game of thrones so I would assume wrongly that you chose it because of that - but if you love it who cares!

watercolourart12 · 12/06/2020 10:21

@helpthefrizz thanks for pointing that out! Glad to know that are not entirely the same names, it's annoying when a character makes a beautiful and unique name too popular and 'trendy'.

The character on GOT, which I also do not watch is not called Aria. She’s called Arya. It’s not even pronounced the same,

Ar-eee-a

Vs

Are-ya

watercolourart12 · 12/06/2020 08:52

Thank you for the advice so far! I am not at all a fan of game of thrones, I have never seen a single episode haha! I do understand that people may assume that, which is annoying...

I like Amalia best I think. It just sounds nice and rounded Smile

Ariella is too frilly for me (I put it in the same category as Arabella) and Aria makes me think of Game of Thrones (I.e.that you'd named your daughter after the character which is maybe a bit "naff").

I'm put off Serena because of one I know that I don't like, but that won't be a consideration for you of course and otherwise it's a nice name.

The others are fine, no strong feelings either way.

userabcname · 11/06/2020 19:19

I love the name Serena so that's my top choice. Also really like Aria and Ariana.

MrsEricBana · 11/06/2020 19:17

Def not Ariella for the areolar connection but I too like Alina & Serena.

MikeUniformMike · 11/06/2020 19:14

Oh, and as someone suggested Sabrina, how about Sabina?

MikeUniformMike · 11/06/2020 19:12

Arielle and Arianna might be alternatives OP, or how about Arietta.

I'm not keen on he Ari bit,but that's just me.

watercolourart12 · 11/06/2020 18:57

Thank you everyone for all your lovely comments, so helpful, keep your suggestions coming! Still love Ariella and Ariana the most, although I do understand the connotations some of you have.

Ariella - not keen bit too flouncy
Aria - LOVE this name
Ariana - Love but prefer Aria
Alina - not keen
Amalia - would it be am-ah-lia? Or am-ay-lia?
Serena - lovely name I also like Selena

passthemustard · 11/06/2020 14:33

A mix of 2 of your names -

Selina.

NameChange84 · 11/06/2020 14:08

You can’t call a child Ariella! It sounds like Areola!

Aria - nice enough.
Ariana- nice too.
Alina - Beautiful.
Amalia - I like it but I think others will mix it up with Amelia.
Serena - Reminds me of the evil wife in the Handmaid’s Tale.

Have you considered;

Briella
Amaia
Anya
Arabella
Alana
Alyssa
Sabrina
Sybella

difficulttod · 11/06/2020 13:53

They all look very similar and all a bit “meh”

thosethreewords · 11/06/2020 13:46

Ariella - not a fan, least favourite
Aria - pretty
Ariana - like
Alina - love
Amalia - not keen and not sure why, prefer the others
Serena - lovely
