I love the way Ariadne looks but do not like the pronunciation. I am looking for an odd A name for a girl such as Ariadne but no luck yet.

Sorry to hear you still haven't found the one!!

OP for Aude, it begins like 'Audrey' then ends with a schwa sound : 'uh' or 'eh'. You can listen here: forvo.com/search/Aude/

Atlanta was a typo, alas. I meant to write Atalanata. She was an ancient Greek heroine: www.theoi.com/Heroine/Atalanta.html

inappropriateraspberry · 12/06/2020 08:11

Wendy was also an invented name for a book, as I'm sure many more were originally!

inappropriateraspberry · 12/06/2020 08:10

I know it's from the Borrowers, but it's a nice name! Pronounced like Arry-et-ee. If that makes sense?

Wowthisisreal · 12/06/2020 07:28

Aroha - Māori, meaning love. Though the correct version might be Te Aroha (not sure) You'd be in very good company - Te Aroha is the middle name of Jacinda Ardern's daughter 🙂

Yes that is true who is to say these days. I will tell you my grand-daughters name in a pm if you like....

FrankiesKnuckle · 12/06/2020 03:33

@Serintyjo Greek tragedy play. I like the name though, not brave enough to use it myself but!

Destroyedpeople · 12/06/2020 03:33

Antigone is an ancient Greek tragedy play by sophocles. I think she has to defend her brother.

Serintyjo · 12/06/2020 03:30

@Destroyedpeople we can definitely make it a name like plenty of other “there no such a name” names haha

OP posts:
Serintyjo · 12/06/2020 03:29

@FrankiesKnuckle is that name from a book? I remember it from Literature class or something

OP posts:
Serintyjo · 12/06/2020 03:25

@Sear86 how do you pronounce it?

OP posts:
Destroyedpeople · 12/06/2020 03:24

There is no such name as 'Arrietty' it was invented for 'the borrowers'...as in ...even their names were borrowed and they had got them slightly wrong.

Serintyjo · 12/06/2020 03:23

@PatsyStone39 how do you pronounce that one? And thank you

OP posts:
Serintyjo · 12/06/2020 03:22

@inappropriateraspberry so is that pronounce like variety without the V? Please tell me no

OP posts:
Serintyjo · 12/06/2020 03:18

@florascotia2 Atlanta? That’s a name now? How do you pronounce the Aude one? Looks simple but odd!
