We are going back and forth over so many names and styles, just can't decide. I have put our current list below for your views and perhaps suggestions. We are looking for something strong, not popular, not flowery but packs a punch and is a little alternative to the normal names we all see and hear so much.

Boys:
Edward (this is the most popular name on our boys list. We like it as we don't know of any Edwards in our area despite the stats)
Joss
Guy
Frank
Clark
Drew (found on another MN list and loved)

Girls:
Frances
Claudia
Vita (loved when I first heard this but not entirely sure)
Lois
Andra
Della (another MN find)

Girls:
Frances-❔ neutral about it

Vita (loved when I first heard this but not entirely sure)-❌

Andra-❌ no but like andrea
Della (another MN find)-✔️ love because that was on my list I had posted on here as a family name 😂

Where I’m from, Frances would get the nickname Fra or Francie (never Fran). I really like it! Fan of Claudia too, never met one but it’s a beautiful name.

Edward is a great name from your list, with plenty of less formal options to use too. I like Drew too, but only if shortened from Andrew rather than a name on its own (just my taste).

Based on your list, some possible suggestions: Eleanor, Anna, Robert, Nicholas?

BlueJeanBabeh · 11/06/2020 20:11

Thank you @elfran great to have another positive response! X

I really like some of your list, mainly the ones others don't seem to! Grin

Specifically, I adore Joss for a boy- it's on my list (the husband isn't on board yet but I'm working on him). I actually find it more masculine than Jesse, though I like that too. I can picture it working on a kid/adult of every age. I see you've ruled it out now, so I'll throw my hat in for Guy - I know a very cool one.

For girls, I like Frances (one of the most perfect girls' names ever, imo), Lois (a mid-century gem and so underused), and, in your updated list, Hester. Just gorgeous. I also want to like Vita but in my North American accent, I can't pronounce it properly (not that that matters to you).

BlueJeanBabeh · 11/06/2020 16:14

@mylittleavalon I'm sad Clark has gone but DH doesn't think it sounds great with our surname, which I agree with having thought about it a bit more.

Edward, Guy and Drew are my favourites. DH likes the others, I find Chester a little bit pet-like that's my reservation with that name.

I see what you mean about Vita/Rita, I just find it really refreshing. Maybe it's just because I haven't heard it before!

You're right, it's really really hard. I'd like to be more sure of what we love but aside from the names we have, nothing else is really leaping out at us... I'm sure we'll get there ...... one day lol! With the help of MN of course!! 💪🏼

Girls name order: Lois, Hester, Claudia, Frances, Farrah, Vita (too much like Rita imo)
Boys names order: Edward, Guy, Chester, Drew, Edwin, Sidney (sad Clark has gone)
Glad you are making some progress it's soooo hard!! Grin

TheExterminatingAngel · 11/06/2020 14:11

Edward and Claudia or Hester.

Absolutely no to any 'surnames as names'!

BlueJeanBabeh · 11/06/2020 14:08

Discussed with DH and reduced list to

Frances
Claudia
Lois
Vita

Edward
Drew
Guy

Others suggested that we like and will consider
Farrah
Hester

Edwin
Sidney
Chester

Of course always grateful for some more suggestions and thoughts. I've read a million and one baby name lists but I never find the ones that you guys suggest! Thanks all x

@daisypond I'm so glad someone else likes Guy too, it hasnt had the best feedback.

I love Frances, only reservation is the nn Fran, I wouldn't mind Frace..

I love Claudia and Vita too! Claudia is DH's favourite from the list.

daisypond · 11/06/2020 11:59

I really love Guy. And Edward. But Guy is more unusual, so I prefer it.

Frances is top for me. It’s a great, strong name. Claudia and Vita are also very good.

BlueJeanBabeh · 11/06/2020 11:32

Thanks @northernbelle84 I like Luke from those but I feel like I know too many Luke's to use it myself. Thanks for the suggestions though x

northernbelle84 · 10/06/2020 22:36

I really like Guy.

Paul, Mark, Luke, have a similar strong feel and although common, not often used for babies atm.

Think we have different taste in girls names so I'll leave that to others!

BlueJeanBabeh · 10/06/2020 22:29

Thank you all. Really helpful. Please do keep the thoughts coming, none of which are offending it's just really helpful as we don't want to discuss with friends and family x

bridgetreilly · 10/06/2020 22:25

Or Audra, rather than Andra?

bridgetreilly · 10/06/2020 22:24

Frances, Claudia and Lois are great choices. Guy is my favourite of your boy's list, though I don't love it. What about Gus?

user1493494961 · 10/06/2020 21:02

Edward is lovely, I know a Josiah shortened to Joss, which I like. Not keen on any of the others on your boys' list and only like Lois from your girls' list, although do like Francesca.

ZoyaTheDestroyer · 10/06/2020 20:02

Edward is really incongruous on your boys’ list. If you want non-popular and unusual then I don’t think it’s one to go for. Maybe Edmund or Edwin?

peppathepirate · 10/06/2020 19:47

From your boys list I really like Edward and Frank/Francis

Girls I love Claudia and Lois!

toastofthetown · 10/06/2020 19:41

Frank is the standout from your boys list. Guy is nice, and I like Joss but more as a nickname.

Frances, Claudia and Vita are stunning!

mum2jakie · 10/06/2020 19:40

Edward is a great name and not one that is used too often (although there are a lot of Teds around.)

I agree with the poster that said all the men named Guy they come across are wet toffs!! Not keen on Clark either - too much like the shoe shop.

17caterpillars1mouse · 10/06/2020 19:34

Edward - I like it, though very popular in our area. I like Ted but dislike, Ed, Eddy and Teddy

Joss - I like it, but I'm not sure I'd want to be a teenage boy called Joss as its associated more with girls. Jesse as a similar name?

Guy - not a fan

Frank - not a fan though I like Francis

Clark - I met a baby Clark when Dd1 was a baby. I didn't understand the appeal tbh

Drew (found on another MN list and loved) - I really like this, especially as a nn for Andrew or a bit more out there Alexandru

Girls:
Frances - not a fan though I love Francesca

Claudia - not a fan, sorry

Vita - I really like it, different but pretty

Lois - just reminds me of the mother from family guy
Andrea - not a fan, sounds dated, though better than Angela. I quite like Angelina
Della (another MN find) - I have a great aunt Fella (had a sister called Greer). I quite like it

BlueJeanBabeh · 10/06/2020 16:20

I think my list is getting lost in the new posts. Hope I can get some more feedback 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 x
