How would you spell it?

Rhymes with "higher"/"buyer" but beginning with an N.

We like this as our girls name, but just wondering how you would spell it to get the right pronunciation?

Actually, no, Nia isn’t ugly. But everyone would say Neeah. It’s a different name. Nya is a very inelegant way of spelling the name you’re trying to pronounce.

Yeah I really don’t like Nia or Nya. Both are ugly IMO.

Naiya, or if you must, Naia.

Not Nia. It already exists as a long-established and fairly popular Welsh girls’ name, pn nee-a.

Naia like Gaia is prettiest imho. Nya looks how you’d render a mocking taunt.

Agree that it depends on your accent. I wouldn't pronounce anything ending in A as -er but you obviously do.

Naya is the easiest.

I would definitely pronounce Niya as rhyming with fear.

Nya is the easiest and most accurate way of getting it rhyming with fire. I know a few spelt Nyah but I find that an ugly spelling.

Niya also looks wrong because what word ever needs an i and a y next to each other?

Thank you all for your replies! We had thought Nya so good that has come up quite a bit, but I like Niya too.

Tricky. I don’t think there’s a guaranteed spelling here. I think Naia or Naya are a reasonable bet but you will still get the odd person who will pronounce them nay-ah on first reading and need correcting.

Alternatively you could use Mya as a template for Nya.
