Rhymes with "higher"/"buyer" but beginning with an N.

We like this as our girls name, but just wondering how you would spell it to get the right pronunciation?

Niya or Nya. To me Nia/Niah I would say like Mia but with an N

babynamelover · 15/06/2020 10:57

Naia or Ngia (Ng said Nigh in Maaori, I said like eye and a said uh"

PuntoEBasta · 15/06/2020 07:45

@Heh1991

Nia! I know a girl with this name and with “higher/buyer” pronunciation although she was often mistakenly called Nia like Mia/tier!
Calling your child Nia and wondering why everyone is pronouncing it nee-a is like naming her Siân and wondering why no-one is using your preferred pronunciation of see-ann.

Nyah or Nya
I think Nia would get pronounced Nee-a like Mia and Naya could get Nay-a like Maya

I also like Ngaire which is pronounced Niary like diary.

Prettylittlelady · 13/06/2020 19:00

Naiah

PuntoEBasta · 13/06/2020 18:39

@Lavenderblueses

Not Nyah as that would be Nigh ah.
That’s what OP wants Confused
Lavenderblueses · 13/06/2020 17:19

Lavenderblueses · 13/06/2020 17:18

Nia

Like Mia or Pia

RuthW · 13/06/2020 17:06

Niah

Allmyeye · 13/06/2020 17:01

I know a Nyah. That would be my spelling.

blosstree · 13/06/2020 16:59

I would spell it Naya, but only because of the actress Naya Rivera. No idea if that's a typical spelling or not!

LadyGAgain · 13/06/2020 13:05

Thandie Newton plays Nyah in Mission Impossible 2. Gorgeous name!

arianwe · 13/06/2020 12:57

I like it best spelt as Naia.

MrsGilly1 · 13/06/2020 12:51

Nya

wishing3 · 13/06/2020 08:58

I’d go Naya as that’s the only spelling of it I happen to have seen-like the actress from Glee! Lovely name.

Cindie943811A · 12/06/2020 23:20

Maia
Gaia
Naia
If anyone asks how you spell it you can say it’s like Maia or Gaia but starting with an N

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 12/06/2020 18:26

Nya or Nyah

If I saw Nia, I would pronounce it Nee-ah. There’s a train in Thomas called Nia and I expect a lot of kids will know her and pronounce it that way.

MikeUniformMike · 11/06/2020 13:11

Naiya. I think it's Indian.

CoalCraft · 11/06/2020 09:08

Nya I think

Lockdownlover · 11/06/2020 08:37

I would say Nyah as that’s the only way I would think of pronouncing it. Niya could be Nee-ya, Naiya could be Nay-yah, Naya could be Nay-yah (I know a Maya who is a May-yah as opposed to My-yah).

TenThousandSpoons0 · 11/06/2020 08:30

Naia, or Naya at a push.
Nice name.
Agree w PP who said Nya and Nyah sound like they rhyme with Nah. N-yah.
Reminds me of the Maori name Ngaio - not suggesting to put a “g” in it but probably explains why I think it needs to be Naia.

PintOfGin · 11/06/2020 07:13

Nyah

Bibe · 11/06/2020 07:13

It's a beautiful name! I'd go with Naia or Nyah.

mathanxiety · 11/06/2020 07:12

...a klaxon goes out for multiple rhotic speakers to come and state that they have no idea what the OP is talking about.

It's because phonics...
