Love this name(possibly) for DS2 but opinions welcome!

Yes - it’s a boys’ name so go for it!

If people do assume it’s Audrey as a pp said then they’re just a bit stupid really, given that Audrey is a girls name, and your son is clearly a boy with a boys name

PetraRabbit · 10/06/2020 11:06

Use it. I absolutely love this elegant male name.

It's really horrible as a girl's name. Just sounds twee rather than classy. It's also incredibly annoying that once a name is adopted by Americans for girls that people feel they can't use it for boys.

bridgetreilly · 09/06/2020 13:43

Love it, but DH is put off by everyone using it as a girl's name.

And this is why no, there aren't any unisex names. There are boys names which become girls names, and sometimes we're at the point of transition so you get both for a little while.

SnowdropFox · 09/06/2020 10:36

I love it for a boy or a girl. Go for it op!

elfran · 09/06/2020 09:28

I love Aubrey; like a pp said, it feels warm and well-rounded. And not a bit feminine! What a lovely choice.

Gardenermumtobe · 09/06/2020 08:44

@Cattermole I also have a male cat called Aubrey Grinalso called Aubrey strawberry or Auby. He's ginger, a little bit chubby Smile

Blueuggboots · 09/06/2020 08:24

@Womanistaken - I agree!!!

Fifthtimelucky · 09/06/2020 07:44

It reminds me of Aubrey Montague, the steeplechase runner in the film 'Chariots of Fire' so to me Aubreys look like a young Nicholas Farrell, and are shy, gentle, academic and posh.

Apparently (according to Wikipedia) he was actually'Evelyn Aubrey Montague' so both his first names are now mainly used for girls. He went to Oxford (not Cambridge as in the film) became a journalist and covered the Berlin Olympics in 1936 so obviously had an interesting life.

Sameold2020 · 09/06/2020 07:43

@Midnightdream ha ha! There you go, its fate!!!

ginandtonicformeplease · 08/06/2020 22:45

Love it, but DH is put off by everyone using it as a girl's name.

WomanIsTaken · 08/06/2020 22:30

Aubrey SO is a boys' name. I'm struck with a silent, white-knuckled rage when I hear otherwise. So shoot me.

Midnightdream · 08/06/2020 22:27

@Sameold2020 I have a signed photo from Boycie. He spelt my name wrong, missed the H off the end. I still have it to this day Grin

@FizzingWhizzbee123 I think I'm brave enough!

It’s really become a girls name
...and yes the only fools connotation

Sameold2020 · 08/06/2020 22:10

Makes me think of only fools and horses.

MrMeSeeks · 08/06/2020 22:07

I automatically think girl. Too feminine for me sorry.

louise5754 · 08/06/2020 22:05

I know three Aubreys all girls though. I had never heard of it so didn't know it was a boys name.

Puppilangstrumpfi · 08/06/2020 21:58

Aubrey is a great name for a boy! Strong and classic.

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 08/06/2020 21:56

Also, this thread has been fairly positive, but if you do searches of previous threads, a lot of people said they thought it was a girls name.

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 08/06/2020 21:55

I love this name for a boy. It is a boy’s name. Sadly we won’t use it as I think the Americans have stolen it and a lot of people now regard it as a girl’s name (along with Quinn!). It’s up to you whether you’re “brave” enough.

DappledThings · 08/06/2020 21:47

Like it. I find it very weird that it's used as a girl's name.

Waferbiscuit · 08/06/2020 21:41

It's the singer Drake's real first name. I think it's quite elegant

Snooks1971 · 08/06/2020 21:31

I think it’s a great name for a boy. Not overdone, not pretentious, not too ‘out there’.

daisypond · 08/06/2020 21:20

I like it. It’s a boys’ name.

Orphlids · 08/06/2020 21:20

I really like it for a boy. I admit, I do think of it as being an older gent’s name, but actually, it would be adorable on a little boy. I find it a bit annoying it is being claimed as a girls’ name! When I think of an Aubrey, I imagine an academic type. An Oxford professor. Gentle. Nice.
