Rosamund?

I see a lot of love for names beginning with Rose/Rosa and I'm wondering what everyone's opinions are on this name.

I really like the nn Rosie and I feel Rosamund is a beautiful option and slightly different to the more usual Rosalind, Rose, Rosa, etc. I also don't mind the connection with Rosamund Pike as she'a a very talented and beautiful woman so I quite like it even!

Any thoughts? xx

Love it. Rose of the world. It is a source of lasting sadness to me that DH doesn't like it - it'd be top of my list otherwise!

shadylamppost · 08/06/2020 18:09

I had some uncertainty about pronunciation but thanks for clearing that up! I really do like the nickname Roz. I would like to honour my grandmother somehow and her name is Rose so I thought this was a nice option to do so.

I also like how it's a name that could potentially exist without a middle name so I'm quite keen on that. I'll definitely keep it on the list!

Love it. Have a friend Rosamund. Roz to most. Rosie to some.

Fruitloopcowabunga · 08/06/2020 17:50

Love it. I also know a Rosane which I think is nicer than the usual spelling

Edenember · 08/06/2020 17:43

@shadylamppost I’m not particularly keen but it’s just personal taste. I prefer the Rose-Amund pronunciation but I think it would be generally pronounced rozzamund or shortened to Rozz and that would bother me. I’ve used Rose but I appreciate its very popular, however not so much as a first name. I’m not keen on Rosalind / Rosalyn / Roslyn for personal reasons (know someone with this name) . Rosina is pretty and suits all ages I feel. If the inevitable different pronunciations and shortened forms don’t bother you, go for it X

kingkuta · 08/06/2020 16:50

I think it sounds awkward and ugly and also dont like any of the ways it would be shortened

wowfudge · 08/06/2020 16:45

I speak Spanish and learned Latin way back when. To me Rosamund means 'rose of the world' and sounds lovely.

IckleBear · 08/06/2020 14:44

I think it's an ugly sounding name and in German 'rosa' is pink and 'mund' is mouth.
I like the name Rosalind instead.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 08/06/2020 13:22

Rose of the world. I love the pre-raphaelite paintings of Rosamund.

hellosun20 · 08/06/2020 13:17

Rosalind is much prettier. Shortened to Rosie or Rose.

midnightstar66 · 08/06/2020 13:16

I know a Rosamund. She never goes by her full name, she's Roz or Rozzie. Personally I don't like the mund/und sound

Aquamarine1029 · 08/06/2020 13:12

I really dislike it. The "mund" is ugly and clunky to my ears.

RosamundIsMyName · 08/06/2020 13:08

Name changed for this!Grin
I am a Rosamund and I'm going to be honest with you, I have always hated it, much to my mum's distress. I have always felt it was an ugly sounding name and hate having to give it at appointments etc.
I am, however, happy to be known as Ros, so you do at least have the option to shorten it.

Off the name change back nowGrin

DramaAlpaca · 08/06/2020 13:01

I think it's fabulous.

TwilightPeace · 08/06/2020 12:58

Rosamund and Rosalind sound very clumpy to me. Lind slightly less so.

Pantheon · 08/06/2020 12:56

I prefer Rosalind or Rosalyn but it's nice

Grufallosfriends · 08/06/2020 12:55

Rosamund means pink mouth in German- Rosa Mund Smile

MikeUniformMike · 08/06/2020 12:44

I prefer Rosalind. Shakespeare name meaning beautiful rose. I know one who is retired and she's known as Rose.
I prefer Rosie or Ros/Roz as a shortening.

theruffles · 08/06/2020 12:17

I really like it. I know a Rosamund who goes by 'Roz' - she's a lovely person.

CorianderLord · 08/06/2020 11:56

Mund is a bit of an ugly sound but it's up to you

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 08/06/2020 11:28

Lovely.

bruisedbutnotbeaten · 08/06/2020 11:26

Lovely name.

florascotia2 · 08/06/2020 11:20

As others have already said, it's Roz - amund, not Rose - amund.
This is because it was originally a German name, from two words meaning 'horse' and 'protection', and had nothing to do with roses.

It just happened also to look like the Latin words for 'rose' and 'world', but was always pronounced differently.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 08/06/2020 11:02

I think Rosamund very pretty- I do think ppl will call her Roz though-which I am not fond of.

If you want her to be called Rose just name her Rose?

elfran · 08/06/2020 10:34

I love it, probably because it the first part isn't pronounced Rose but Roz, as others have said - it just feels stronger, to me.

If that would bother you or leans too far from the "Rose" names/pronunciation you like, I'd look for another option. However I don't think there'd be anything wrong with a little Rosamund nicknamed Rose or Rosa (normal pronunciation)!
