Oscar is my favourite from your list!

PuntoEBasta · 08/06/2020 07:47

I love love love Hector but couldn't get it past DH. A friend used it for her son and it is just perfect for him.

The pronunciation depends on your accent. To me, Peta and Peter are pronounced differently.

Micah

Oh wow I never knew that about ezra pound! I'm not a big fan of his poetry so didn't know anything else about him. That's a shame, it's a nice name.

AncientandPregnant · 07/06/2020 14:28

Thanks all. I am happy with an R sound too. It’s just all my other kids end in a, or uh and I don’t want something too different but r is fine.

I like Elijah quite a bit. I like Wilbur too but doubt I’d be brave enough to use it.

All of that list have a pretty strong to very strong R sound in half the country. If the "a/uh sound" is your criteria for picking a name then it might be a problem. If it was to guide us to your taste then fair enough.

LizzieAnt · 07/06/2020 11:02

Just to agree with @CatteStreet that the 'r' will be pronounced in all the names ending with 'r' (Alexander, Caspar etc) by those, like me, who have a rhotic accent. This may not bother you at all, but it's worth keeping in mind Smile

Ezra is so associated with Ezra Pound and therefore fascism that I find it surprising that anyone names their child Ezra these days.

Ricekrispie22 · 07/06/2020 09:28

Xander
Xavier
Zachariah

AncientandPregnant · 07/06/2020 09:25

Yes Ezra Pound was an anti Semite and a facist and DH is Jewish so I think we can’t consider Ezra.

daisypond · 07/06/2020 08:49

Ezra Pound the poet famously held fascist views.

BikeRunSki · 07/06/2020 08:46

Fletcher, Frazer

CatteStreet · 07/06/2020 08:45

(I should point out that all the names ending in -er' only make an 'uh' sound in a non-rhotic accent)

redwoodmazza · 07/06/2020 08:44

Christopher - well due a revival

CatteStreet · 07/06/2020 08:43

Ezra Pound had some, to say the least, dodgy views.

I think your DH is confusing Ezra Pound (poet) with Enoch Powell (racist).
