Can I?

I'm struggling so much with boys names. Percy has a really lovely family meaning to me and I love it. But is it due a comeback or just no?

It's a no from me, but if you love it then you should use it! I don't think it is too out there and it is getting more popular so it won't be an unfamiliar name.

I absolutely love the name Stanley if you're looking for other names along the same lines. Really like Eric too.

Pleasenodont · 10/06/2020 12:52

I love it but DH doesn’t so I can’t use it Sad. He just says it makes him think of the pig and he also says it’s a wet name. I really like it.

Bouncingbelle · 09/06/2020 23:14

Maybe if he is going directly to Eton or you want to set up your child for a lifetime of ridicule.

Would you want to be called Percy?!?!

Howmuchlongercanthislast · 09/06/2020 15:29

What about Pearse

Middle name Nipple?

IndieRo · 09/06/2020 08:53

No

What about Pearse

Fruitloopcowabunga · 08/06/2020 17:53

Edmund/Redmond?

Alwaysundecided · 08/06/2020 17:43

Please don't listen too much to Mumsnet. Names like Percy, Herbie, Barney etc never go down too well on here but in real life there are lots of little boys with these cutesy old man names now.
I think it's really cute. I wouldn't be brave enough to use it, but if I met one I would think it was cute and it would be fine on an adult as he will be amongst other adults with names in a similar style. No young person used the word Percy for penis anymore.

SoftBlocks · 08/06/2020 16:56

Lord Percy from Blackadder. Sorry.

Howmuchlongercanthislast · 08/06/2020 16:53

Percius?

Howmuchlongercanthislast · 08/06/2020 16:50

I would go with John Thomas

bluebabydinosaur · 08/06/2020 16:18

No, sorry, percy parrot!

emmathedilemma · 08/06/2020 13:03

I was going to say that I quite like it and i've never heard it used as slang for penis so maybe that's a regional dialect thing??

Whatsyourflava · 08/06/2020 10:38

I don't find any of those names wet ! They're lovely

Percy is great and it's numbers have massively increased In the last few years if you look at official statistics so it's already on its way back- use it!!. If not how about Barnaby.

elfran · 08/06/2020 10:31

I like Percy, but then I have a weakness for boys names which MN posters overall find "wet". It seems very tied up in misogyny and the avoidance of any "soft/weak" qualities in little boys. (I also find the whole penis thing ridiculous- there are about a hundred slang names for it, are we to avoid them all? Maybe more people need to raise their kids to use the proper anatomical terms for their genitals, and we can reclaim some lovely names.)

You might like:
Francis
Robin
Arthur
Rupert
Toby
... all of which are on my own longlist! "Wet" though they may be Grin

EngagedAgain · 07/06/2020 23:02

Was fine in its day and still nice for the oldies that are still around, but seems terribly old fashioned for a baby/anyone under the age of 80!

lucindalovescats · 07/06/2020 22:48

Pig, he will get teased, good luck with your search.

Blursula · 07/06/2020 22:40

I’ve never heard it as a word for a penis!

However, I do see it as a bit wet and a bit posh - I’d put it in the same pile as Rupert.

How about:
Stanley
Henry
Thomas
Gordon
James
Donald
Douglas nn Dougie

And yes those are all names from Thomas the Tank Engine, but I think they share a Percy vibe!

Wallywobbles · 07/06/2020 21:46

An ex called his dick Percy

PunkrockerGirl59 · 07/06/2020 21:01

Please don't, poor kid. I do love it on here when the op suggests an awful name and posters pile on with such hideous alternatives that you end up thinking that maybe the original name wasnt maybe that bad after all Confused

BeMorePacific · 07/06/2020 20:48

I really love Percy. X

DontDribbleOnTheCarpet · 07/06/2020 19:59

It's a nice enough name, but I have an ex who has always referred to his cock as Percy, so that's kind of ruined it for me!

Angel2702 · 07/06/2020 19:56

I love Percy it’s due a comeback with all the other old names that have become popular.

Most names will have something associated with it and I’d associate it more with Percy from Thomas the tank engine than a sweet.

MittensTheSerpent · 07/06/2020 19:53

It's cute, but it's also quite close to 'Pervy'.

iklboo · 07/06/2020 19:23

Rufus?
