I don't like it. I know a teenage Vera and always think that it's an odd name for her.

RoseMartha · 08/06/2020 21:24

No

BackforGood · 08/06/2020 21:21

Within the UK though, it defaults to Veer-ah

FartnissEverbeans · 08/06/2020 21:14

I absolutely love it. I like all the pronunciations but Verra/Vaira are really beautiful.

I like Vara too but I don’t think that’s a real name unfortunately!!

GRW · 07/06/2020 18:10

It's lovely and deserves to make a comeback like other granny names.

alison123345 · 07/06/2020 18:05

Vera is a popular Russian name. It means Believing

SnowdropFox · 07/06/2020 18:01

I dont mind it. I knew one would was the loveliest most generous women so good associations. I'd pronounce it Vee-rah. Pretty meaning too. Much prefer it to names like Olivia and variations of Bella/Belle which are popular round me at the moment.

Enko · 07/06/2020 17:46

I dont mind it

Foxesandcrosses · 07/06/2020 14:55

Just a very ugly to me.

MikeUniformMike · 07/06/2020 14:52

Duckworth. Please don't.

StellaDelMare · 07/06/2020 12:57

I really like it. I think it's an 'older' name that could make a come back.

Think about all the Ada's, Ida's, Evelyn's, Mabel's etc..

They have made a comeback and I think a little Vera would be sweet to make a comeback

whatausername · 07/06/2020 12:44

Duckworth. And I don't even watch Corrie.

Same category as Mavis, Maud and Doris. Not one I'd like to hear comeback personally.

brownhazelgreen · 07/06/2020 12:28

Seems like marmite! 😬🤭

Awful.

IVflytrap · 07/06/2020 11:06

I think it's OK, not awful, not my favourite. It has a nice meaning. Since I found out about the more common pronunciation in the rest of Europe (more like Verra or Vaira than Veera), I prefer that pronunciation. However Veera will of course be the default if you're in the UK.

(The trouble with people saying "it's as bad as Maud" or "it's a not-pretty name, like Mavis" is that some people like those names or find them pretty. Grin I genuinely like Mavis. Maud isn't bad. Don't like Bertha though because it makes me think of "birther"!)

Wherewhathow · 07/06/2020 10:37

I think of Aloe Vera. Not great when greeting someone of that name.

PurBal · 07/06/2020 10:03

I love it

MittensTheSerpent · 07/06/2020 10:01

Gorgeous.

Tropical2 · 07/06/2020 09:22

It's lovely

Iwalkinmyclothing · 07/06/2020 09:21

Really don't like. It's in the Gladys category for me.

rooarsome · 07/06/2020 09:16

To me it's a granny name but not granny chic. Sorry OP.

florababy84 · 07/06/2020 08:44

There was a little Vera in my baby group when DC was born 7 years ago. I remember thinking it was an odd choice but obviously the parents loved it. To me it falls in the category of old-fashioned grandma but not pretty, much like Mavis, Beryl, Gertie.

redwoodmazza · 07/06/2020 08:29

Duckworth...

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 07/06/2020 08:27

I like old lady names but there are much nicer ones out there than Vera....

Grufallosfriends · 07/06/2020 08:09

Given how Verity and Very are pronounced, Vera should be pronounced Vera and not Veera?!

I know a Veronica nickname Vera (not Veera).
