Posted another thread for some more suggestions, but please could we some thoughts on our two front runner names for DD1?

Joy
Jean

Also any middle name pairings would be helpful.

@ReginaGeorgee Thankyou - you too ☺️ Whichever you choose it will be a winner X

rottiemum88 · 07/06/2020 13:51

Ooh difficult. My parents chose Jean as my middle name, after both my grandmas, but I changed it to Jane when I turned 18 as I hated it so much growing up. Looking back now I wish I'd kept it as I really quite like it, so I'd probably pick Jean out of the two Smile

midsomermurderess · 07/06/2020 13:49

And when it comes to spelling stick with 'Jean' .'Jeanne' is French, that doesn't make it more classy. Jeane is as bad as using a 'y' in Jane, I'm my opinion.

midsomermurderess · 07/06/2020 13:45

Jean. It's strong and, well, bold. I think short names like this are due a revival. So refreshing against all the pink, fluffy girls' names of recent years.

Callo · 07/06/2020 13:10

Jean Frances is great

Callo · 07/06/2020 13:09

I like both but agree Jean is cooler

Helenheller · 07/06/2020 11:00

Like both but Jean has the edge. Love Jeanie and Joanie.
Jean Frances is lovely.

ReginaGeorgee · 07/06/2020 10:52

@Edenember such lovely choices and combinations! Good luck ❤️

@Ikeameatballs I love Jean Frances and also Frances Jean actually!

@SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito I love too I'm so torn!

I love Joy. I don't normally like virtue names but Joy is just brilliant. Smile

Ikeameatballs · 07/06/2020 10:14

I love them both but I think Jean has the edge in terms of “coolness”.

Jean Frances
Jean Delilah
Jean Penelope
Jean Imogen
Jean Helena
Jean Elizabeth

Joy Therese
Joy Veronica
Joy Catherine
Joy Harriet

@ReginaGeorgee I also love Eseld (Cornish Isolde) but it doesn’t go with our surname.

CourtneyLurve · 07/06/2020 09:21

Jean, although I prefer Jeanne. :)

Edenember · 07/06/2020 09:18

@ReginaGeorgee if I use it it will be a middle name ... I realise that seems to contradict what I’ve just said 😂 but I want all the names I use to feel ‘complete’ including middles, I don’t want them to look/feel like something I’ve just stuck in for the sake of having a middle, if you know what I mean. I have a ridiculous amount of girls names on my list covering many different styles, some of which you’ll love, some you’ll hate so I won’t bore you with them all 😂 my favourites at the moment are Eliza, (E)erika, Eve, Freyja, Hannah, Heidi, Ingrid, Isolde, Rowena, Theia, Tilda and Trudie, but my favourites from the ‘mother pool’ tend to rotate all the time. I veer towards strong sounding, ‘heritage’ names, a lot of Scandi stuff to reflect heritage hence the k spelling of Erika. I don’t think I’ll use Freyja because of popularity (although I don’t know any), I would always try to avoid the one of several in the class problem. However I also have plenty of vintagey classics on my list such as Harriet, Florence, Cecily, Beatrice etc. I think the favourite atm is Eliza Jeane 😻 I feel like for you a longer middle name would flow well, I liked other pps suggestions of Jean Felicity and Jean Penelope xXx

CatBatCat · 07/06/2020 08:50

I like Joy but I am biased as that's my name and everyone says its a lovely name when i tell them. I've not met many other Joy's in my lifetime.

ReginaGeorgee · 07/06/2020 08:39

@Tardigrade001 Some days I prefer Joy too, others Jean it's so hard.

I thought of Joy as I have a virtue name too and Joy is so short and simple with a gorgeous meaning!

OP posts:
ReginaGeorgee · 07/06/2020 08:37

@Edenember that's a great idea re the spelling. It does look more complete. I considered the Jeanne spelling but didn't want people to say Zhan.. Jeane is a lovely way around that!

What were you thinking of pairing with Jeane for the middle spot and what are your other options if you don't mind my asking?

OP posts:
Tardigrade001 · 07/06/2020 01:29

Prefer Joy. Jean is ok but not as nice.

Edenember · 07/06/2020 01:25

@ReginaGeorgee Jean is my preference, gorgeous. I have it on my list spelt Jeane... I feel like the e makes it look more complete rather than having a middle name feel. It’s lovely however it’s spelled though as is the Jeannie nn - adorable

123Dancewithme · 06/06/2020 23:21

Jean is great!

ReginaGeorgee · 06/06/2020 22:39

@namechangenumber204 not that I know, I'm trying to stay away from any rising trends and go for underused classic names. Jesamine is beautiful!!

OP posts:
namechangenumber204 · 06/06/2020 22:33

Is Jean an up and coming name? It's my DMs middle name and shes in her 80s! Joy is timeless I think, so would go with that. If I had had agirl she would have been called Jesamine.

ReginaGeorgee · 06/06/2020 22:28

@TheLette that's lovely, I really like it! Just hope it would suit our DD for all ages.

@shazattack3 I really don't want anything modern or trendy

OP posts:
TheLette · 06/06/2020 20:15

I like Joy! So simple and uplifting. I chose it as a middle name for my daughter.

Bubbletrouble43 · 06/06/2020 19:25

I love Joy, and Jean is OK, but I prefer it spelt Jeanne, don't know why
