DH and I are considering this name, however we are certainly unaware of how popular or unpopular it is at the moment. We don't really know a lot of babies or kids as we just moved to a different city a few months ago so haven't exactly made a lot of friends with kids.

Have you recently met any babies/kids named Callum? How popular is it now?

Other names we like:

Fraser
Clive
Rogan
Gareth
Brogan
Boyd

And a few others...

I have seen it spelt both ways but for some reason the double L spelling looks a bit more appealing to me. We'll definitely give this a thought though!

We are based in SW England and I tried checking the statistics from the ONS but it only shows the Top 10 from each region.

Just gave the website a look, that's really helpful. It seems to have gone from 20th to 135th so that's slightly reassuring and the Calum spelling went from 91st to 1040th

Callum is the 135th most popular name in England and Wales, so not popular here really. I've certainly never met a baby or small child called Callum. Go to darkgreener.com and type in any name and it will tell you how popular it is.

Where are you based op? Maybe worth looking at the previous few years records to help judge.

Callum is my favourite from your list. Rogan my least favourite.

I love Calum too. I’d spell it with one L too.

daisypond · 04/06/2020 14:39

I don’t know any young Calums. I would spell in with one N naturally.

BabloHoney · 04/06/2020 14:39

I really like Callum (and Calum) - bit different without being too out there. It was on our list for our second baby, but we went with Conor in the end. I also love Fraser from your list!

Nellydean21 · 04/06/2020 14:38

Very popular in Ireland too. Lovely name.

Nquartz · 04/06/2020 14:37

But I'm not in Scotland

Nquartz · 04/06/2020 14:37

I only know of one, also Scotland

Paperstraw · 04/06/2020 14:32

I guess we don't mind the adult Callums as much as we'd mind the babies or toddlers.

Any opinions on the other names? We are trying to stay out of the most common names without falling into the completely out there ones.

Also Scotland and i think it's fairly common across a range of age groups. Likewise Fraser. I only know one Boyd and he's older (50's), don't know anyone with your other names.

curtainsforme · 04/06/2020 14:26

Same. I am in Scotland and I know more adult Callum's than children. 2 in their 30's, 3 in their 20's and a 5 year old.

SnowdropFox · 04/06/2020 14:24

I'm in Scotland and I'd say it's a pretty steady name here. I know 4 adult Callums, 2 kids and one toddler.
