Variation of Lily?

So we love the name Lily and even though it's getting quite popular we still really like it. Yesterday going through nameberry for inspiration this name came up on a completely unrelated thread to the name Lily.

Lilium

What do you think? Is it a realistic alternative? I do like the -um bit quite a lot even though I can't explain why

Thanks xxx

I’m not a fan

I have a Lily. Agree it sounds medical/scientific like lithium or helium and sounds v.ugly. You’d be doing your poor child a disservice.

We already have a close family members named Lilian and also a Lilia so most other options have been taken! Maybe it is a sign we need another name Sad

It sounds scientific/medical, possibly because of ileum.

Plus when you Google it the main results are for a jet.

LilyE1234 · 04/06/2020 13:59

Yeah it reminds me of lithium too and it’s a type of aircraft. She will just end up being called Lily anyway so why not stick with that?

Lillian could be an alternative?

TheThingWithFeathers · 04/06/2020 13:59

Don't be sillium!

NannyR · 04/06/2020 13:58

I think you would spend a lot of time correcting people who think the name is Lilian.

ScarfLadysBag · 04/06/2020 13:57

No, sorry. It's quite a ugly-looking name IMO, which is a shame as Lily is very pretty.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 04/06/2020 13:56

No. Really, no. It sounds like something from an anatomy textbook. “Surgeons we’re forced to remove the lilium, which had become perforated...”

Plus people will always assume it’s Lilian. How about Lilias? It’s a Scottish variant on Lilian.

JoeExoticsPrinceAlbert · 04/06/2020 13:55

Sorry but it reminds me of lithium.
