Variation of Lily?

duckloves · 04/06/2020 13:52

So we love the name Lily and even though it's getting quite popular we still really like it. Yesterday going through nameberry for inspiration this name came up on a completely unrelated thread to the name Lily.

Lilium

What do you think? Is it a realistic alternative? I do like the -um bit quite a lot even though I can't explain why

Thanks xxx

Lillium illium lithium no.

Lilith?
Lilyana?

IndiaMay · 05/06/2020 17:32

I think Lily is quite over done but Lilyana is nice (I cant remember if that's how you spell it, there was one in neighbours for a while - pronounce Lily - yana)

LotusClover · 05/06/2020 17:10

We already have a close family members named Lilian and also a Lilia so most other options have been taken!

Then surely your number one priority would be to choose something completely different, i.e. something that doesn't have "Lily" in it? It seems nonsensical to have a Lilian, Lilia and Lilium in the same family. Besides, Lilium itself is pretty absurd. Go for something else.

Variegated Lily
Valley (of the)
Lilliput
Lily Marlene
Sorry, can't think of anymore!
Wink

walkingchuckydoll · 05/06/2020 05:37

Livia?

footprintsintheslow · 05/06/2020 05:09

@Aclh13 are you being serious?

Aclh13 · 05/06/2020 04:37

@bettybeans not sure what you haven't learnt from this week of equality? That comment is fairly offensive to other cultures and countries regardless of you being 'a scot'

bettybeans · 05/06/2020 04:26

Thank god the Welsh are here. They're honestly the only folks that can always fix you up with a beautiful name. Said the Scot 😄

Lalala205 · 05/06/2020 04:19

Also if you like floral names I'd consider; Iris, Fern, Saffron, Heather (very 80s but maybe due a comeback?), Ivy, Camellia (bit of a wild card!).

footprintsintheslow · 05/06/2020 04:19

Welsh alternatives:
Lilwen
Liliwen
Lila (lee-la)

Lalala205 · 05/06/2020 04:08

Lily has been quite popular the past 10/12yrs, but I don't think it's took off quite as much as Rose (filler middle name). So I'd say just go for it if you love it. Violet seems to be the new variation, so there's not likely to be that many 'Lily's' you come across in Dds year group.

LevoMental · 05/06/2020 03:54

Mirium has a similar sound

Cummingsandgoings · 05/06/2020 03:48

Susanna?

Aclh13 · 05/06/2020 03:41

Oh and lillibette

Aclh13 · 05/06/2020 03:39

I had a great aunt called elizabeth that we called Lil GRHS. As suggestions
Lila
Lillienne
Liliana
Livvy
Lillie
Lilith
Lillian

Alexsay · 04/06/2020 20:35

Really don't like Lilium. Those other suggestions are nice though. Lilian is nice. Not so popular either.

Roseburn · 04/06/2020 20:33

Lilias.
Scottish variation.

ForeverBubblegum · 04/06/2020 15:11

How about Lilith

WhatWouldDominicDo · 04/06/2020 14:47

Lilium is truly awful, sorry OP.

Notmyrealname855 · 04/06/2020 14:39

Also Inez and Louisa... not variations of Lily but somehow feel similar xx

Notmyrealname855 · 04/06/2020 14:36

Lillibet
Lisbeth
Elspeth
Lilith
Liselotte
Eira (which means snow :) )

I’m afraid I thought your name suggestion was a chemical Blush but then I did fail chemistry :)

LochJessMonster · 04/06/2020 14:35

Lila/Lyla

Luna

Juno231 · 04/06/2020 14:31

Sorry OP but I agree with the medical/lithium comments. Liliana sounds lovely though?

Thornhill58 · 04/06/2020 14:13

Liliana in Spanish.
