If I like Otis...

I like the name Otis but am seeing it pop up a lot and worry it might become very popular. (Do you know many babies called Otis?)

I like strong two syllable names without a Y or ‘ey’. That sounds easy but we are not getting ANYWHERE.

It depends where you live. I’m in London and I’ve heard it a lot...and Otto

As mentioned by a PP, Fergus is cute too!

TheVanguardSix · 05/06/2020 16:21

Elroy mentioned above. Now that is a cool name! That's a proper name.
That could be your runner-up name if you don't go with Otis, OP.

Marybird · 05/06/2020 16:04

I absolutely love it! I would use it for my next baby but my friend has twin boys - one is called Otis and the other has the same name as my son... so she'd hate me :) Her son is the only Otis I've met, I think even if it ever becomes mainstream it will always be a lovely cool name.

To add I also like Fergus, Jethro and Orson if that helps 😊.

Adelais · 05/06/2020 10:44

@Edenember I think it’s usually pronounced Eh-ban like Evan with a B but some people pronounce it like Ee-ban. I like it either way.

VictoriaBun · 05/06/2020 10:33

Eli ?

17caterpillars1mouse · 05/06/2020 10:31

I don't know any Otis' at all. I've seen it on cbeebies baby club once, does that count?

Edenember · 05/06/2020 10:29

@edgeware I know of one little Otis and my cat is called Otis ☺️ I love it, it’s classic and contemporary at the same time and doesn’t seem overused although it may be one of those that rockets in popularity, but there’s always some unpredictability that way. I would use it .

Edenember · 05/06/2020 10:26

@Adelais ooh is Eben pronounced Ebben or Ee-ben? Either way I think you may have given me a name for my extremely scant boys name list... so thanks 😂

babynamelover · 05/06/2020 10:05

I love Otis it was our pick for #2 who was a girl.
I know one Otis in NZ Brother Elroy.
Use it 😍.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 05/06/2020 09:35

Well Bryan Ferry has an Otis, also Tara, Merlin and Isaac (all boys)

PlantPotting · 05/06/2020 09:33

Otis is such a lovely name. Never met one despite spending recent years at baby groups

There's such an assortment of names these days and Otis is lovely. I think you'd regret not using it

20viona · 05/06/2020 07:27

Otto Came to mind first.

mrs87 · 05/06/2020 07:13

Felix, Milo, Otto, Sonny? (I know you said no - y endings but I only say the last one because a friend's DCs are Otis and Sonny so she has similar taste!)

Pippilangstrumpfi · 04/06/2020 18:38

I like Otis and feel it's becoming more popular.

These feel similar imo
Caspar
Rufus
Quentin
Magnus
Vincent

afrikat · 04/06/2020 15:29

If you love Otis, use it! Don't worry about it becoming 'popular'. We used a name outside the top 100 and my daughter still ended up with another in her pre school class.

BeMorePacific · 04/06/2020 14:14

I love the name Otis. I know one Otis and he’s 10, it really suits him.
I also think Milo is a lovely name x x

35andThriving · 04/06/2020 13:57

I like it. I don't know any. I would class Errol as the same type of name.

I think you should use Otis if you love it. A lot of names that are talked about on here don't actually get used once the babies arrive anyway. I think the name discussions on here just make it seem more commonly used than it is.

SuperSharpShooter · 04/06/2020 13:54

Oops.
One of those was a 97 yr old who had NEVER met another Otis in his life.

SuperSharpShooter · 04/06/2020 13:52

I have an Otis 😍 not a baby though, and only met 2 - 3 others in 12 yrs.

Robs20 · 04/06/2020 13:52

My 6 week old DS is called Otis :). I also liked Oscar, Jacob and Milo.
