Morning all,

I really like both Elsie and Elise as girls names.
Could I please ask for your opinion, which one do you prefer as a name?

(we would pronounce Elise as EL-eese)

Thank you Smile

Elise is beautiful but I agree that she'll spend a lifetime having to correct people.

I prefer Elise and it was actually on our list for DD, one of the reasons we didn't go for it in the end is we thought it would constantly get misread as Elsie.

Elsie. Or even better - Elizabeth or Elisabeth. I've always liked it spelt with the s.

Alarae · 03/06/2020 12:21

Elise.

I've never heard of any different pronunciations other than the way you listed.

I don't mind about people having to learn a pronunciation of a name.
They will just have to be told once and then I am sure they will pick it up.

I love Elsie, I would go for Elspeth shortened to Elsie probably incase she wanted a more grown up name when she was older. Its a truly beautiful name.

I dint like Elise at all. I prefer Alice or Alicia if you like that sound.

Elise.

I really don't like Elsie.

Livingthecovidaloca · 03/06/2020 11:40

Prefer Elsie. With Elise, she'd spend a lot of time correcting people’s pronunciations. I teach three Elise’s and they all have a different Pronunciation.

Wanderer1 · 03/06/2020 11:38

I prefer Elise as it's less diminutive. I think girls names ending -ie are too baby girl and would be harder to own as a grown professional woman. But they are very popular are the moment (Elsie, Maisie, Rosie etc) so I assume my opinion is in the minority

captainraymondholt · 03/06/2020 11:38

Elsie. By a very long way.
