Please could I ask your opinions on the name Della?

I had a Great Aunt called Della. If she was alive now she'd be at least 110 years old. It's a lovely name. Smile

Fleamaker123 · 02/06/2020 17:18

@wowfudge
Yes! That's where i know it from, I couldn't remember.

I really like it, very unusual.

wowfudge · 02/06/2020 17:14

My first thought was, "Della and the dealer and a dog named Jake and a cat named Kalamazoo", but you probably have to be of a certain vintage to make that connection.

ElectricTonight · 02/06/2020 17:11

Only known a dog called Della

Mindrunningwild · 02/06/2020 16:00

Thanks both. @Mucklowe I think so too!

NeedToKnow101 · 02/06/2020 15:45

I like it. Sounds nice.

Mucklowe · 02/06/2020 15:36

Gorgeous.

Mindrunningwild · 02/06/2020 15:31

@123Dancewithme how would you pronounce Dinah? I like it too!

OP posts:
123Dancewithme · 02/06/2020 13:22

I prefer Dinah

ChateauMyself · 02/06/2020 12:58

Nice name.

Also, Delyth - Welsh (pretty/blessed)

FizzyGreenWater · 02/06/2020 12:51

Very much a no. It sounds chunky and clunky and dated. Also Del as a shortening?! Um no thanks.

Mindrunningwild · 02/06/2020 11:31

Thanks all, very helpful. Still love it!

JonnyPocketRocket · 02/06/2020 09:44

Gorgeous! It does have a bit of an 80s vibe, but in a cool retro way, not in a dated way.

Changedname81 · 02/06/2020 09:42

It’s a lovely name

Blursula · 02/06/2020 09:34

I absolutely love it

Strugglingtodomybest · 02/06/2020 08:10

I quite like it, but it does remind me of someone with a blocked nose trying to say Stella!

bookwormish · 02/06/2020 08:07

@Mindrunningwild She loves her name. She doesn't know anyone with it, which always pleases DD. Also, it can't really be shortened although her and her friends shorten it to Del/Dells etc. It's definitely strong, but still feminine. It means noble/nobility.

No joke, i think she'd love to know her name is like a soap pub landlord/matriarch so thanks Nuff lol 😂

IDontLikeMondays88 · 02/06/2020 07:57

I like Della.

Also what about Delta or Decca.

It’s quite unusual so you are not going to get lots of posters saying they love of but it is about 100 times more interesting than Ella.

Blessed2496 · 02/06/2020 07:54

Love it

Spied · 02/06/2020 07:51

I like Bella, Stella and the like.

Della, however seems a bit dull to me as dies Dina.
Dalia is a bit more interesting but I'm not a fan.

Mindrunningwild · 02/06/2020 07:36

@bookwormish that's lovely, does she like her name?

Appreciate all the responses, good and bad. I thought it was rather unusual but still strong and feminine. Other considerations are Dina/Dinah and Dalia but Della has the edge for me.

Pieceofpurplesky · 02/06/2020 01:55

To me it's a very 80s name as I went to
School with a couple. Also know a male Della!

It's cute though. Adela is stronger

Kokeshi123 · 02/06/2020 01:42

I prefer Adela. But Della is not bad---a bit different, pleasant sound.

TimeWastingButFun · 02/06/2020 01:33

Not sure, it sounds like 'Stella' said with a bad cold!

NuffSaidSam · 02/06/2020 01:33

I've just realised why, because of Della from 'Raised by Wolves' I think!
