Hi,
Basically I think I’ve decided on a name, Lottie. My only problem is that people have commented that it’s a nickname and not a ‘real name’ Ive come across the spelling Lotte which I feel looks fore like a ‘whole’ name, but my bf says it is pronounced differently. What do you think? How would you pronounce Lotte?

If pronounce it Lottuh, which I think is a lovely name. If you like Lottie though, just ignore everyone and call your daughter that! Lotte/Lottie/Charlotte are all beautiful.

I would go with Charlotte nn Lottie but my best friend (who i spend pretty much all my time with) is called Charlotte and it seems odd for them to have the same name!

I think Nina is probably right, but just to say I love the name Lottie, and if I'd had another girl, that was high on our list too.

I’d pronounce it Lottie.

If you love Lottie go with Lottie. Doesn’t have to be short for anything at all. (95% of mumsnet will disagree).

It’s a short uh sound. You don’t really have it in the U.K. so everyone will mispronounce it by default.

Callybrid · 01/06/2020 20:44

I’d pronounce that Lott-a

Ninkanink · 01/06/2020 20:43

Yes it’s pronounced differently...The Danish way. Kind of like LottUH.

Why not just name your child Charlotte and use Lottie day-to-day?

FatalSecrets · 01/06/2020 20:43

Not quite the same as Lottie

More “Lotter” but no “r” sound, not as brash as “Lott-uh” though.

I’d say it’s pronounced the same, Lot-ee - but still sounds like a nickname for Charlotte to me
