Surely there are other equally obscure Biblical names that you could take a liking to? What about Omri ? (In Kings).
Meshak?
Benomi
Shadrack

EPGA2020 · 03/06/2020 11:31

Atrocious and that's me being kind.

cptartapp · 03/06/2020 07:22

Very similar to Eschar.
Slough, piece of dead tissue, linked with necrosis, gangrene and fungal infections. So no.

Miriel · 03/06/2020 07:19

I like it. I don't think the 'is a car' issue is any worse than 'is a bell' and that's very popular!

Pinkypink · 03/06/2020 07:11

I can't get away from it sounding like Is a car?
If you like slightly obscure biblical names, I'd go for Zebulon (pronounced zevulun in hebrew) also one of Jacob's sons.
Think Zeb as a nn is cute. Reminds of the grandpa in the waltons think he was called Zeb....

MaryRoseSatOnAPin · 01/06/2020 22:37

Bible describes Issachar as a donkey. Might be why it's not ever been v popular

AvoidingTheWineAisle · 01/06/2020 22:32

I really like it. It’s sometimes used by Rastafarians (12 Tribes of Israel). That’s the only time I’ve ever heard it.

Wheresthebiffer2 · 01/06/2020 22:29

how about Joseph or Benjamin?
(still humming Jason Donovan singing Jacob and sons).

seasidestarfish · 01/06/2020 16:34

@AllPlayedOut gosh I loathe that song! So irritating!

@GrimmsFairytales I have a very unusual name and I was teased for it at school when meeting new people. Even as an adult I hear the same 2/3 jokes all the time about my name when introducing myself but for every joke I get, I also get told I have a fab name. It’s just one of those things and lots of names have potential for teasing

I do like it, but I did immediately start singing the song from Joseph!

GrimmsFairytales · 01/06/2020 16:27

@seasidestarfish

022828MAN haha oh dear I was waiting for that! Still hasn’t put me off though! Grin
I appreciate it might not put you off, but the child will be hearing the same joke for the rest of their life. It's definitely worth considering how they might feel about it.
022828MAN · 01/06/2020 16:26

The bottom line is if you like it then go for it! My DC has an unusual name and some people don't like it but I love it!

AllPlayedOut · 01/06/2020 16:25

It's a very unattractive name and now I have "Jacob and Sons" stuck in my head.

'is it a bike, is it a plane?'
'no... Issachar'

Sorry, OP! Grin

seasidestarfish · 01/06/2020 16:11

@TinySleepThief I do see where you’re coming from but it doesn’t bother me at all! I just really like biblical names and nobody has ever asked about my faith based off my kids!

OP posts:
GrimmsFairytales · 01/06/2020 16:08

So it's pronounced is a car. It doesn't sound much like name, more like a sentence.

I think there are much nicer biblical names, if that's the theme you wanted to stick to.

TinySleepThief · 01/06/2020 16:07

our other kids all have biblical names though we’re not particularly religious

If all your other children have Biblical names, which im guessing are also quite unusual e.g. not along the lines of Noah and Adam if this name would be a good fit, then I would assume upon meeting you that you were incredibly religious. That might not bother you but its certainly something to consider.

Ughmaybenot · 01/06/2020 16:02

Is a car? I’m not a big fan if I’m honest, sorry.

Windyatthebeach · 01/06/2020 16:01

I am a car...

seasidestarfish · 01/06/2020 16:00

Interesting range of reactions, thanks everyone!
Pronunciation is ‘Issa-car’
@SionnachRua our other kids all have biblical names though we’re not particularly religious so Issachar would certainly be a good fit!

Dreadful!

GrimmsFairytales · 01/06/2020 15:43

I'm another wondering how it's pronounced. Is it Is a char

SionnachRua · 01/06/2020 15:43

Nope. It does make me think "is a car". I would also assume that you're some kind of evangelical Christian or similar very religious type. A great association if you are but not if you're not that fervent!
