I can imagine some slightly unusual individuals might actually call their offspring

"Furlough" "Covid" "Corona"

Anything goes

LongTallSammie · 08/06/2020 13:14

This made me laugh!

"notheragain4 Sun 07-Jun-20 09:52:40
I very much doubt it, unless women are going to start spawning dogs this year instead of children."

With all the symptoms that some people say Covid causes or might cause and the various things that some say might happen long term if you have it "major damage to the lungs if you get it" screamed one hysterical individual - who knows women might start spawning dogs if they have had Covid this year.....!

SoloMummy · 08/06/2020 06:51

For me I'd never name my child after a pig or bear, which is what I immediately thought of seeing the name Huxley.

Be like calling a child Peppa or Yogi.

Pieceofpurplesky · 08/06/2020 00:58

I always think of Huxley Pig too

PetraRabbit · 07/06/2020 23:51

Huxley isn't popular itself but it does have a certain sound that would identify it - very American surname kind of name. Logan and Hunter are very popular and they're similar.

lucyintheskywithcz · 07/06/2020 22:50

Yep sounds like a dog

DrDetriment · 07/06/2020 22:05

Sounds like a cat or dog rather than a child.

Hucksley?

babynamelover · 06/06/2020 11:59

I know two under five, I live in New Zealand.
I don't see it going top fifty but who knows, Alex was popular here, Max has done well and Xavier and Felix too.

I've never heard of it for a first name.
It sounds very "on trend" like a character from GOT or a Marvel movie.
It goes with Hunter, Baxter etc and I think it will date badly.
In 50 years time it will be one of those names which you will be able to pin point quite precisely when they were born.

Millicent10 · 05/06/2020 18:31

I think this is the name of Ant’s (from Ant and Dec) dog. For some reason there seems to be a running story in the tabloids about him and his ex wife sharing the dog. It’s ok, I’ve certainly heard worse.

ZoChan · 04/06/2020 14:56

@tellmesomethingreal I think we've met one other- mine is now six and a half! Our wedding coordinator ended up naming her son Huxley a year after meeting us, so there are some around.

Robs20 · 04/06/2020 14:23

My friend has just called his dog Huxley. I hadn’t heard of the name before so don’t think it is becoming v popular. Use it if you like it :)

tellmesomethingreal · 04/06/2020 14:18

@Zochan !! Have you met many other Huxleys? How old is yours?

OP posts:
ZoChan · 04/06/2020 13:10

I have a Huxley! It means "outdoorsman" which is perfect for him.

I also have a Quinlan which means both "wise" and "descendant of the handsome man". My husband chose it Wink

Tallace · 04/06/2020 12:52

It reminds me of General Hux from the latest Star Wars films. Not someone you want to be named after.

tellmesomethingreal · 04/06/2020 12:44

That's true, it could be anything! I'm a big believer in nicknames being important social cues that signal belonging and bonding etc though so want something that can be shortened! Maybe Dax as a nn? Why are baby names so hard!?

OP posts:
Greentea93 · 04/06/2020 12:37

Not sure, madx?? Not every child needs a nickname though
My child’s nickname isn’t anything related to her name

tellmesomethingreal · 04/06/2020 12:23

I do love Maddox but what nicknames could you have?

OP posts:
Greentea93 · 04/06/2020 12:21

Maddox

tellmesomethingreal · 04/06/2020 12:11

This is so difficult! I do love the name and I'm due very soon so need to decide but it's hard. I love Hux and Huck but HATE Lee so would hate that nickname.

I can't use some of the great names mentioned as others in family have so no to dexter or max or Alex sadly.

I really don't think people will link to the pig as I had never heard of it (mid 30s) the YouTube couple does bother me though as it's so current and heartbreaking.

I like lux and fox and rex but ultimately don't feel like they sound like 'full' names somehow?

OP posts:
bridgetreilly · 03/06/2020 22:00

No, I don't think it's too popular or will become so.

I just don't like it much.

Pudding01 · 03/06/2020 21:52

I know a dog called Huxley. Didn't really like it on him either...

If you like X sound, how about:

Alexander / Xander / Alex
Xavier
Maximilian / Maximus / Max
Rex
Jackson (although it's deemed as chavvy in some places)
