Hi all,

Me and DH have mixed feelings about this girls name (he loves it and I keep changing my mind lol).

If you heard this name (pronounced; Kez-EE-ah) what would you think? Who would you expect to use it? Do you like how it sounds?

Don’t be afraid of being rude in any way! I want your gut reaction lol x

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

The Bible, specifically Job. I'd pronounce Kez-ee-ah

NameChange84 · 31/05/2020 20:19

There was a very rough bully at my school in the 90s/00s called Keziah. She was built like The Trunchbull from Matilda with one of those pineapple ponytails right at the front of her head and she used to stomp about pinning people against walls - she was utterly terrifying, like she could crush you to pieces and laugh maniacally about it afterwards.

Her mum and her “Nan” thought she was the bees knees and she’d smile sweetly at pick up time when they’d say in a thick Mancunian accent, “Kezzzeeeuuuuhhh, Kezzzeeuhh Our Kid, gerrroverreerrre!!!!” Nan had no teeth.

So...I have a very personal and specific connection to the name which makes me wince even today!

My beautiful red haired sister

Kez ee ah

I knew a woman with the same name she was lovely and such a bubbly person.

MamaSapphire · 31/05/2020 20:13

I have also heard it pronounced kez-eye-ah

MamaSapphire · 31/05/2020 20:12

Love it!!!

Chattercino · 31/05/2020 20:12

I taught a Keziah but she prounced Ke-zee-uh, nn. kezzie

Know a Kezia now (Ke-Z-igh-ah) and my children can't say her name and call her Siah. I think it's a hard name to pronounce and is often mispronounced.

BillysMyBunny · 31/05/2020 20:10

I known two Keziah’s, both pronounced to rhyme with Isaiah - Kuz-eye-uh.

One girl was part of a UK Mormon family and the other a US evangelical Christian family so I would assume if I heard it that the child’s family were very religious.

CiderWithRosy · 31/05/2020 20:02

It's a biblical name. I think it's really beautiful. I've only ever known one, she'd be about 16 now. Lovely girl. Her parents used to call her Kezzy for short sometimes. I really like that as well. Your husband has great taste in names!

CayrolBaaaskin · 31/05/2020 20:00

Dugdale

HavelockVetinari · 31/05/2020 19:59

Beardsley. Josiah and Keziah. (Any other Outlander fans here?)

It's a really old name.

ZebraKid71 · 31/05/2020 19:56

My name is Kezia, pronounced Kez-ee-ah. With your spelling I'd pronounce it Kez-eye-ah. Regardless of the spelling, I have had a lifetime of mispronounciations, even after telling people numerous times.so many different variations that sometimes I was not actually sure it was my name they were trying to say/spell! It had got slightly better since Kezia Dugdale as people are more familiar with it and she uses the same pronunciation as me

I like it as an adult, but as a shy child I hated it as it always drew attention to me.

My sister and brother both have unusual names also, but more familiar shortenings so they don't endure the same hassle as they have another option.

HumphreyCobblers · 31/05/2020 19:55

I read The Diddakoi this morning - it is the most perfect book.

I love the name Kezia

Rover83 · 31/05/2020 19:50

I would assume a name of African origin and I would have pronounced it Keh-ZY-ah

KingOfDogShite · 31/05/2020 19:43

Bullying bitch I went to school with.

sergeilavrov · 31/05/2020 19:40

The annoying woman who was rude to Grace on The Bill.

highmarkingsnowbile · 31/05/2020 19:17

The Book of Job. What does 'Jemimah' make you think of, it should be the same thing.

Artus · 31/05/2020 19:15

Kez-EYE a

Evangelical Christian

middleager · 31/05/2020 19:12

I knew one. Her mother was chief of the playground clique and not a nice person.

LizzieVereker · 31/05/2020 19:08

I teach a girl called Keziah, but she pronounces it Kay-zee-ah. She’s tall, of mixed racial heritage and very good at public speaking and Maths. So that’s how I see girls with that name.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 31/05/2020 19:08

The fruitarian from Nottting Hill.
Not in a good way sadly

Thecazelets · 31/05/2020 19:05

The Rumer Godden book and TV series in the 70s ( Kizzy). Am old though.

sweetnosugar · 31/05/2020 19:03

I went to uni with a lovely girl called Kezia. She never used it, didn’t like it at all. Now in her early 30’s she still uses the nn Kizzy. She came from a very wealthy family, never heard of the name until I met her.

Sportsnight · 31/05/2020 18:46

I know two! A KEH-Zee-a and a keh-ZYE-a. (Capitals for the stressed syllable). I think it’s a lovely name, and slightly prefer the latter pronunciation which sounds more biblical.

reginafelangee · 31/05/2020 18:45

Kezia Dugdale for me too
