Hi all,

Me and DH have mixed feelings about this girls name (he loves it and I keep changing my mind lol).

If you heard this name (pronounced; Kez-EE-ah) what would you think? Who would you expect to use it? Do you like how it sounds?

Don’t be afraid of being rude in any way! I want your gut reaction lol x

One of the nicest women I worked with. ,,, Love the name.

MitziK · 31/05/2020 23:04

A very pretty girl with dual heritage and parents who go to church every Sunday.

Flippinfab40 · 31/05/2020 23:04

It makes me think of Kizzy in The Diddakoi. I considered Keziah for DD because I love Kizzy, but even though I know it's a biblical name I do think Keziah sounds almost made up.

SE13Mummy · 31/05/2020 23:02

I love the name Keziah and we very nearly used it for DD2 (with Kizzy as her nickname). It reminds me of Rumer Godden's book, The Diddakoi, which is a hard-hitting story of exclusion and prejudice but I loved it as a child and it has never left me.

The Keziahs I know tend to be from Christian or Jewish families. I've only ever heard it pronounced Kez-ee-uh.

I'm not sure what a beige name is? Rebecca, Rachel and Hannah are popular biblical names that almost every 40-something female is called if their name isn't Joanne/a, Louise or Claire - is that what you mean? I certainly wouldn't put Mary in the same category as Rebecca other than it being biblical.

It was my cat's name. We pronounced it Kaysha Grin

DH refused to let me name DD after said (deceased) cat.

Tillygetsit · 31/05/2020 22:55

I love this name. Right up my street and I lobbied for it for dd2. Dh not so keen.
I really don't get the chav reference at all.

AteAllTheAfterEights · 31/05/2020 22:54

Dugdale (although spelling not same)

wizzywig · 31/05/2020 22:51

Kez, said in a scouse accent

TildaTurnip · 31/05/2020 22:50

Keh-zee-ah
I know two and both pronounced this way. Not heard any other pn. I like it!

Davespecifico · 31/05/2020 22:49

Kizzy the tv programme.
A pre-war farmer’s wife.
Child of a hippy

Ohdeariedear · 31/05/2020 22:47

Dugdale. But I think that only applies if you are in Scotland tbh.

CaffiSaliMali · 31/05/2020 22:45

Keziah is lovely OP. I work with someone who has a DD named Keziah.

Shoshana is another gorgeous name if you'd like a Hebrew/Biblical name. Lots of lovely ones to choose from without using ones which are a bit more commonly used.

CoffeeRunner · 31/05/2020 22:01

I would think “god, I hope I’m saying this right”.

PuppyMonkey · 31/05/2020 21:59

Never heard this name before but would assume it’s pronounced Kez-eye-ah - similar ending to Isiah.

123Dancewithme · 31/05/2020 21:47

There’s a few in my family tree. I like it pronounced Kez-eye-ah but there seems to be quite a few different pronunciation.

EmpressLangClegInChair · 31/05/2020 21:20

A Katherine Mansfield story that I'd forgotten all about until now. Although the girl in that was Kezia.

missmouse101 · 31/05/2020 21:04

Ex housemate's gf was called this, pronounced KEY-sher (rhymes with belisha.). Nice name.

BabyBrainJane · 31/05/2020 20:49

Big thanks to all of you who have taken the time to comment! I have so enjoyed reading all of the different versions and takes on it!

I didn’t want to give any context near the start because I wanted your opinions without my influence 👍

DH is Jewish (but atheist). I’m super old Anglo Saxon blood and strangely feel I have no particular “Heritage” to claim.

As our children will not be raised Jewish and I don’t have a competing heritage I would like our children to have Hebrew/Biblical names.

Also because you can’t really go too wrong with “traditional” names 👍
That said we want names that are not too beige (Mary, Rebecca, Etc, sorry if that’s your name!) but also not totally wild (Bethsheba, Keren-Heppuch, Zipporah).

For interest: DH’s family would all say it “Kezzy-a” and associate the more faithful pronunciation “Kez-EYE-ah as being an American thing! X

@namechange84 I can see why that would be off putting! The kezia I know is red haired artistic and stunning, I like the name!

Bubbletrouble43 · 31/05/2020 20:32

Johnnymcgrath I'm also in Cornwall

BikeRunSki · 31/05/2020 20:30

The book/tv adaptation “The Didakoi” by Rumer Godden. I love it. The main character was called Keziah, known as Kizzy.

Bubbletrouble43 · 31/05/2020 20:29

I know of a Kezia and I would pronounce it like she does : Kay-ja with a soft sounding j, basically Asia with a k in front of it. I love it and considered it for my DDs but dp not keen.

saffy1234 · 31/05/2020 20:27

The song 'hideaway' what a tune!

TheHarryFormerlyKnownAsPrince · 31/05/2020 20:26

I know one. Very religious family. I don’t love it and would assume very religious (in depth knowledge of Old Testament)

livingmyslothlife · 31/05/2020 20:23

Only one I've heard of was the daughter of a missionary.
