So our favourite name for the boy we’re having is Asher Star

Hubby was doing some googling and has got all bothered because a bunch of websites all said that Asher was the #1 name so far in 2020 (they all got their info from Nameberry)...

I don’t know any Asher’s! So I don’t really believe it!!

Do you know any born this year or last?

None

Lovely name, we considered it, though it wasn't a frontrunner

Prettylittlelady · 31/05/2020 18:40

I love the name. The only one I have known of is about 5 now.

Destroyedpeople · 31/05/2020 17:08

No its a very cool name x

BabyBrainJane · 31/05/2020 17:06

Thanks all! Smile

DH is Jewish and I’m not so there’s context to the choice. Hopefully it makes sense that we’re ok with it being popular in certain places with a Jewish population, in America and if the person you know who had an Asher is Jewish. It’s more we wanted to check that it didn’t go completely mainstream and super popular! Grin

Lauren83 · 31/05/2020 07:47

I know of 3 born in the US but non in the UK

Blursula · 31/05/2020 07:05

I know a toddler Ashur (spelt that way after an elderly relative). I definitely feel like it’s suddenly on the radar and wouldn’t be surprised if it shoots up in popularity in coming years tbh.

FleurNancy · 31/05/2020 00:21

I know of one born a few weeks ago.

chrisrobin · 31/05/2020 00:19

Dan TDM's son is called Asher, born earlier this year

finallychangedmyusername · 31/05/2020 00:17

I've never met an Asher of any age, but really like the name. I think Nameberry's stats are based on 'likes' for the name, rather than names of actual babies.

Aclh13 · 31/05/2020 00:07

I only know one and he's mid 20's

IVflytrap · 30/05/2020 23:32

No, none.

Mnthrowaway20202 · 30/05/2020 23:30

So that might be an influence

Chochito · 30/05/2020 23:30

My friend's son born in 2018 is Asher. I "know" a few Ashers born more recently (2019 and 2020) as in they are the kids of Facebook friends or friends' nephews, friends or friends' kids, etc. It does seem very popular at the moment.

Mnthrowaway20202 · 30/05/2020 23:30

I don’t know anyone called Asher but still think it’s relatively popular, as i have come across popular Netflix characters named Asher

Destroyedpeople · 30/05/2020 23:29

Now I think of it the only Ashers I have met have been Jewish.

Destroyedpeople · 30/05/2020 23:28

I would have thought there would be quite a few Asher's in the more Jewish areas as it is the name of one if the seven tribes of Israel.

Stopthehop · 30/05/2020 23:26

No I've never heard of anyone called Asher.

MidnightHangingTree · 30/05/2020 23:24

I know a 5 year old one but none born more recently than that.

jackstini · 30/05/2020 23:23

I know a boy born 2015 and a girl born 2001, Nottinghamshire

zippyswife · 30/05/2020 23:23

Yes I know one. Cool name. I like it.

TempsPerdu · 30/05/2020 23:21

I’m in London.

Elouera · 30/05/2020 23:21

I only know a female Asha who is about 30.

TempsPerdu · 30/05/2020 23:21

No, but I do know one born in 2017. I quite like it.

As a pp said, the Nameberry figures are from site searches, not official stats. According to the ONS figures Asher was #217 in 2018. Think it’s definitely rising, but not wildly popular yet.

BabyBrainJane · 30/05/2020 23:20

Thank you lovelies Wine

I forgot to ask; If you do know one, which region of the Uk are you in? Xxx
