Dorothea is a grumpy old lady in beige, and Tabitha is a horsey girl who snorts when she laughs. But the others are nice.

SiaPR · 31/05/2020 06:34

Go with Dorothea. It is not as nice as Dorothy but it has a meaningful reason behind it. The shortened forms are all really nice as well. I also love Aster. The others are all pretty boring. With the exception of Olive, which is quite cute, but every other baby was called Olive in the earlier part of this decade.

And olive x

custardbear · 31/05/2020 06:28

I love Dorothea, Ivy and Olive!

CatteStreet · 31/05/2020 00:32

Dorothea, Matilda and Aphra are great. Not keen on the rest. Olive and Juno will be very 'early 2020s' to future generations.

Grandmi · 31/05/2020 00:22

Olive is definitely my favourite name ...so pretty and not too common yet ...love it !!

Alphablocs · 31/05/2020 00:22

I would pick Ivy orOlive.

ClementineTangerine · 31/05/2020 00:19

I like Matilda, Tabitha, Marigold (nn Goldie), Ivy and Olive

I actually love Marigold nn Goldie.

If you like Juno how about Juniper?

MrsSchadenfreude · 31/05/2020 00:18

Aphra is fabulous.

Edenember · 31/05/2020 00:15

@PastaBolognaise I like Tabitha, Aphra, Ivy and Olive. Quite like Ione too .

Awrite · 31/05/2020 00:14

I love Dorothea. Jon Bon Jovi's wife is called Dorothea.

Don't like the rest. Ivy will always be Ivy Brennan from Coronation Street so I have never understood it's revival.

Aclh13 · 31/05/2020 00:10

Dorothea❌
Matilda❌ too many people using the og spelling now
Tabitha❌ icky name
Juno❔love it but think of the film
Marigold (nn Goldie)❔not sure don't love don't hate
Aster❌ no
Aphra✔️ unusual but like it
Ivy✔️ nice unique name
Ione❔not sure
Olive ✔️ love it

justanotherneighinparadise · 30/05/2020 23:25

Only one I like is Olive.

Crabbo · 30/05/2020 23:22

I like Juno. Not mad on any of the others though. Esther is lovely, much nicer than Aster - sound similar but totally different vibe imo.

123Dancewithme · 30/05/2020 23:09

I love Marigold! Aphra is great too, makes me think of Aphra Behn.

pilates · 30/05/2020 21:55

Matilda is my favourite

Delilah?

LilacSloth · 30/05/2020 21:53

I like Tabitha, Marigold and Aster. What about Aster Dorothea? Do your other dds have more unusual names?

Elsiebear90 · 30/05/2020 21:17

Honestly, a lot of them sound very pretentious to me, I love Ivy though.

CuppaZa · 30/05/2020 21:15

Don’t like any of them apart from Ivy

Orphlids · 30/05/2020 21:14

Your reason for adding Dorothea to your list is beautiful, OP. I can quite understand your wanting to use it.

My favourite from your list is Juno. It is a lovely simple sound, and I like the unusual ‘o’ at the end. Not many names that end with an o. It sounds sophisticated. I’d expect a Juno would be interesting company.

FamilyOfAliens · 30/05/2020 20:44

Matilda is very popular (I work in a school but not in an area where you’d find anyone with any of your other names, OP!).

Ivy is getting more popular.

Do you like Rosemary? Loads of nickname options if you want to do the weird MN thing of choosing your child’s nn rather than letting it develop organically.

userabcname · 30/05/2020 20:41

I love Tabitha! Great name. I like Juno and Olive too. Matilda is ok. Not keen on the rest.
